Manslaughter at a minimum, I think

Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

    wow.

i read that figuring the whole team had beat the hell out of him, but one dude just punched him. musta been one helluva hit.

having grown up playing soccer, i can recount multiple times where people went after the refs. once (just like you would imagine in a movie) my team and another team went at it, and it got very out of hand very quickly. i didnt really do anything but some other players on my team got some hits in and vise versa. thats like a 20 on 20 brawl for those that are unfamiliar with soccer and how many people are on the field.

im not surprised its a growing problem. have you seen how parents act?! its embarrassing.

Aye, and that story gets older all the time.

Parents are generally damned poor examples when it comes to youth sports + their own kids.

Oh, I don't think so, Jeff.

    Not legally, at any rate.

After reading the article, i cant help but wonder what medical conditions some of these people have. I mean it sounds like single hits causing these injuries and this death.

Dude has already had ribs broken and his leg broken...damn.

This is one of those no-win things. There are specific, serious charges for this type of thing, but no one wins. Shitty situation. If anything, the punishment should be something along the lines of 25-50% of the offenders pay/income for 20 years. The offender must maintain employment, with gaps limited to 3 months max, or he will be sent to prison. I'll bet he would keep employment, and at the very least the family gets some sort of compensation. Just sending him to prison would just cost tax dollars, and no one wins.

Its awful the ref died, I actually think its a shitty deal on both ends. The family of the ref will be troubled for life because of this, his children lost their father and I cant imagine what they are going through. At the same time, even though it was wrong to hit the ref, there is no way this kid intended to kill the ref with one hit, its unbelievanle to think you you kill someone so easily. So even though he shouldnt have taking a swing like that, I cant help but think he never even considered that he might kill the ref.

Its clearly manslaughter, but should probably carry a fairly light sentence. Ruining the kids life more than it already has been will not bring back the father, family member or friend.
