I wont be shocked if the Pats blow it tonight, lots of injuries on offense. Ditching Welker for the talented guy made out of glass was a mistake.

I'm just hoping Geno keeps his composure and has a decent game, win or lose.

so much for that. 3 picks in the 4th? they could have walked away with that game with field goals.

That Jets offense just is not gel'ing(shocking, I know). Geno made a lot of bad passes (short every time), but made a lot of good passes that were dropped. The drops were bad, but Geno missing (read: not even seeing) the wide open verticals was inexcusable. Getting happy feet again, and not staying in the pocket going through the progressions.

that catch and run in the 1st quarter that the guy fumbled when he was taken down and the defender accidentily kicked it out of his hands.....I knew it was over for the Jets right then.

I wouldn't simply because Cam has about the same running ability as Tebow and better throwing and even still, Rivera could have Manning as a QB and fuck that up.

Not sure what the Jets thought by drafting him, his playing at WV was system based, lots of YAC and good receivers against mediocre Big12 defenses. That said, I thought he did well, all things considered. He's basically had what, 2 weeks to try to work with the first team and get timing down with the receivers? Meanwhile he's learning a different style of offense and gotten little in the way of run support. I think that before the season though if you told Jets fans that you would go to NE and only lose by 3 to the Pats and be 1-1, they would be alright with that. It's still too early to know how this all shakes out though, for Smith, for the Jets and even for NE. IF the Jets continue trying to run the ball, get Smith's pass attempts down to maybe 25 a game and get him more familiar with the system, they could maybe get a wild card (if things go their way). Course, the AFC still looks pretty down at this time, but we do need a bigger sample size.

Compared to the other qb's available in the draft? I think the Jets did very well snagging him in the 2nd round. For quite a while in the season last year, Geno was forecasted as the #1 overall pick. He will develop. He hasn't had any problems under center. The system that he came out of is invading the NFL in a major way. Dink and dunk, screen happy offenses are everywhere these days.

It is the Jets, some consideration has to be given for that train wreck of a team. Hopefully, that doesn't ruin his career(I don't think it will, the kid is very talented) Also, when Kerley returns that should help some. Quick guy that can work the inside/middle very well and get the yac, that's right up Geno's (current) skill set.

Best thing I saw was they are finally getting away from that ridiculous wildcat package. But yeah, coming out of Foxboro losing 13-10, that's definitely not bad at all. Granted, this is not the Pats of the last decade.

Not saying that he was a bad pick up, just that the Jets have so many other issues that I don't know that many (or any) QB could go there and do well right now. Considering how weak the QB class was, the potential for Ryan to be gone at the end of the year and how good next year's QB class looks, I think that the Jets management would've been better suited to focus on improving other areas and picked up someone next year (Bridgewater perhaps?) Smith shouldn't be starting though, just not ready for it. Doesn't have any choice though.

In short, the Jets basically did what the Panthers did, and you see how that worked out for them. I think Smith will be alright in the long run, just that he's not a good fit right now to what the Jets have going on (or don't have going on honestly.) While the spreading the field stuff is invading the NFL, I don't know how sustainable it is long term for a QB who can't read defenses and make adjustments. With proper coaching, Smith could be very good, but Sanchez also had a chance to be pretty good but never had good development. Hard to say what happens. I do agree that Kerley coming back should completely change the offense.
