    Who needs the Surface/Windows 8?

Currently browsing this site on my Asus Transformer Infinity using Ubuntu. Turned my 10hr battery life tablet with amazing resolution into an awesome functional laptop.

    Just sayin

I've never actually measured how much battery life I get from my Surface RT. I get about 3 - 4 days out of it with what I would consider normal usage, however, I am on my phone a lot more as I don't bring the tablet to work.

Nobody NEEDS it. Nobody NEEDED windows Vista, or really windows 7 for that matter. It's pretty, it looks nice, it sells. People who want mainstream functionality and uniformity and mainstream apps (and mainstream issues) will always want windows.

I'm not hating on windows or Ubuntu. I use a windows 7 phone, used win8 release candidate and have been a long term user of Ubuntu on my desktops and laptop as well. Neither is for everyone, it's just a "to each his own" sort of thing.

Good to hear you're having a good experience with Ubuntu!

windows 7 was needed. x64 xp was an atrocious failure. 7 is the first stable iteration of it.

Not completely. What's your reasoning for the average consumer needing a 64 bit OS?

it's not about individually needing it. it's about having an established OS in place so that the software can be produced. the need was collective--an improvement in software capability.

    Win7 was definitely needed.

Have you thrown winxp on a new computer in the past 2/3 years? It ruins it.

Put the same model pc next to each other, one running win7 one running xp. The win7 machine will blow it out of the water. WinXP x64 was complete shit.

Win7 x64 is where it is at. No reason you shouldn't run x64, everything but 1 legacy program I have come in contact with works on it.

Love win7. Why would I go to 8, as I will never go touch screen...

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!
