Not getting into drama at this point in my life, but must address inference that this thread was done with malice.

I mainly posted this up because the issue of ethanol and non ethanol safe lines, to show what can happen. Never stated who did it, where it had been, what products were in it.

I have always loved to make threads to spread information to others. Some of my many many threads are just that. And that is all this was meant to be.

10 years ago, I would have been an ass, maybe posted to smear another, A lot of things in my life have changed my perspective on life and people. I think many would be surprised why I do things now. And they are never vindictive or mean. Like the woman said "I ain't got time for that"

I hope the readers take information away from this thread and look closely at the hose they use if using ethanol.

I have always loved working on these cars and sharing the information I find.

Hey Chris, drama aside, its probably a good idea to send those fuel injectors out to get flow tested/cleaned as well as the pump and tank itself. Wouldn't be surprised if small bits of rubber are coating everything. I see this kind of stuff all the time at my job (we specialize in tephlon coatings).

As suspected, and shown by a very rough idle, the fuel injectors are caked and packed with degraded fuel line goo.

Courtney's rear fuel injectors, due to non ethanol compatible fuel lines, I bet the inside of the injector is just a gummed up mess. Replacing with Deatschwerks 1000cc injectors. Also replacing Ngk copper 9s (no reason at all for 9s on a 700hp car, especially one that is only street driven) with Champion race plugs.

And the one on the left, that isn't a bad picture, you can't see down the nozzle because it is packed with black goo. The way the nozzle lip doesn't look round on them, Buildup of black goo, and some the holes in the injectors are all covered as well. Wonder what the insides look like.



Tearing down all fuel components, This is why I recommend stainless steel filter elements with E85. This was in Courtney's car, paper, it is soft, degraded, and of course full of the degraded hose rubber. Replacing with stainless steel element.



Should be all wrapped up Sunday, Saturday is the monthly Carolina 3S meet, will be nice to have a day off. Oh Wait, driving a customer's car back from the meet to work on it. LOL.

I would just like to add also on the Russel Pro classic line, I have used it myself many times on other peoples cars, a couple of which were running ethanol and they never complained to me about leaks over these last few years or anything. I also have a few mustang friends running the Russel pro classic line with no issues on e85.

That same thing happens with a SS filter. It's not the fuel hose deteriorating producing the black goo. It won't break down the rubber to a liquid form. The black goo is from the E85 itself. Google black goo E85 and you will see tons and tons of threads on it. My guess is Courtney has been running E85 for awhile. Sometimes it can happen within a few hundred miles or it could take longer. The black goo was sent out for testing and came back as an additive. When E85 is spraying out the injector some of the additive is left behind "crashing out" as that tar like substance due to not being as soluble in ethanol. Soaking the injectors in gasoline or running a tank of 93 every once in awhile dissolves it out. If it were the ethanol deteriorating the rubber lines itself gasoline would not dissolve the black gooey substance. Not all places that sell E85 use the additive so it can depend on the station.

Everyone going cray talking teflon/PTFE don't need to go that far unless you really have the money to spend on that.

Is teflon really that much more expensive.

I'm looking at replacing my fuel lines with teflon and the price difference from rubber really isn't alot. On ebay atleast but teflon is teflon right. Fittings and lines maybe 15% more expensive.

Yes, the E85 additive pack can lead to goo, but all his lines were gushing like strainers, so there is a good chance the injectors are clogged with particles of his deteriorated lines.
