    Nahhhhh YOU can remove it...

while your at it, if you still have them you can take the bars out of the doors too.

Come to think of it remove the rear one too.

Please excuse the shitty pictures. As I said, this was almost 10 years ago and this was probably a 2MP camera at best.

Without the crash bar the ENTIRE core support would have been pushed into the radiator and engine causing significantly more damage than what it ended up with.

Here's a car with no rear crash bar.

Just at a glance, the impact destroyed the bumper, rear lights, AA wing, hatch, various brackets and most likely the entire sheetmetal bulkhead that makes up the rear of the car.

Had the bar been in place, the damage would have been a LOT less.

So is the idea of saving 10 lbs worth the risk of thousands of dollars of damage and the near-guarantee of totaling your car if you get into even a minor accident? It's your call.

i'm with these guys. totally not worth it. can't speak to jackhammer's replacement in case of an accident...but i do know that not having it is a recipe for disaster. i still have an aluminum one waiting to replace the POS steel one that my car came with.

Dont take them out. The peace of mind outweighs the weight savings

Holy fuck! Some of the posts in this thread. Cut the seat belts out for weight savings while your at it. Not a safety feature

That being said I removed mine for a while because of the FMIC but soon after replaced it with jackhammers bar. I'm not going to lecture anyone for removing it. I mean it's still safer than riding a motor cycle. We take risks for certain benefits. If you removed it without a benefit or for weight savings then that would crazy but some things like a front mount might be worth it.

Having seen what happens to a car with even a weak front crash bar (60+ mph into trees, engine pushed into firewall, passenger side frame rail collapsed, shell bent in half): http://imageshack.us/a/img809/8886/1picture7.jpg I'd never remove the crash bar completely. I'd at least run a Jackhammer style bar.

Yeah my logic is, Mitsubishi engineered these cars for safety. There's a reason why many owners walk away from bad crashes and rollovers. To get rid of the crash bars without a full roll cage is just fucking retarded. If its something aesthetic on an old classic that might be another story but most 3/s owners use their cars every day. Is that logical enough for you? A retarded thread deserves a retarded answer.
