help me choose a new DD!

    hey folks,

right now i drive a 1990 corolla gts as my current DD. it is a PIECE OF CRAP! it was $400 when i bought it, it may not even be worth that now... seriously. and i need to make this decision within the next month at the latest. the rolla' aint cuttin it no mo'

im curious what you all think would make a good DD?! here is my criteria:

    - around the $6,000 at most. i have enough money being spotted to me that i can spend whatever, but i dont want to pay back much more than $6k
    - has to be a car. i dont want a truck or a jeep. i have to drive about 30 miles to work and back every day starting in 3 weeks.
    - i want something decent. no more $400 cars.
    - im not shooting for something fast, but i dont want it to be a dog either. something just peppy would be nice.

    things i have considered/am considering:
    - e36 BMW M3. i have always wanted one, and they look so good when they are lowered on some nice wheels.
    - 1999 miata. yeah yeah yeah its girly, but the BP18's are good engines, and i like that body style. the 99's have the best of both worlds IMO
    - $2000 2001 volvo S80. its not in the best of shape, and has some electrical issues, but could work and maybe i could sell it for what i bought it for a few months down the road?

ok, now lets hear it! thanks fellas

S14 Kouki. Theyre 4 bangers from the factory (unless it has an RB swap, which is popular); so they should be good on gas. Id look for one with an SR swap.

I had an absolute blast in the Mazdaspeed protege. The only reason I sold it was my brother wanted a car with AC and I wanted to get back to the 3k. I'm sure they can be had for around your price range. I sold mine for 5500 with decent mods. It's a practical car having four doors and all.. gets 30mpg highway easy, and ran a 14.5 last year at NG. They only made them in 2003.

    E30 BMW (a 325-E gets 32+ MPG and is a 2.7L Straight 6) I had a $800 beater one that I daily'd and tracked, and i consistently got 34mpg highway. Fun car.

Huh? He said 6k, and you are referring the harder-to-find cosmetic later year S14. The difference from the Zenki's is strictly cosmetic, and all 240sx's are 4 cylinders... RB swaps aren't exactly dime-a-dozen, but SR20's are. Finding one that hasn't been abused is becoming increasingly difficult. I'd find a STOCK S13 and rock that though.
