I'm in the middle of a 94 R/T to TT conversion... I've read every forum on every thread about ECU's and I'm still confused. A 94 R/T needs a 91-92 TT ecu to run the fans? Can someone break this down for me?

"Why pay for a sports car, keep is clean and shiny, mod it, and drive it like a bitch?"
91-92 year vehicles radiator fans were controlled independently from the ECU. If you have a fed spec car, that is probably why they are suggesting you need a 1g ecu, as you keep the 3 plugs with the 1st gen TT ecu.
How can I tell if I have a fed spec car...
Most relevant thing to do in regards to this thread would be to check how many plugs go into your stock ECU.
Ohh ok thanks
When I did my TT conversion from 95 base to 95 VR4 I kept the same year ECU so it would control the fans and still be hybrid OBDII. I had to make an adapter harness to go from 3 plug to 4.
I just got a Chrome ECU from JestersDead, I'm keeping the harness I made since it has the resistors in it and serves as a place to wire things in instead of hacking up the factory harness. I also had to make a harness for the front 02 sensor, so don't forget about that.
The easiest way to tell if your car is Cali or Fed spec is the number of 02 sensors. If yours only has one it's a Fed spec. If it has more it's a Cali.
I'll be selling my VR4 ECU if you're interested, but I'd recommend a Chrome ECU.
Do you actually have to replace it? I'm new to the car game and learning a I go... Lol
So let me get this straight.. For a 94 R/T I need a 91-92 TT ECU with the fan adapter to run my radiator fans. I do NOT have to hack into the harness at this point ?
That sounds right. But I didn't use a first Gen ecu so I'm not 100% sure.
