Using tranny coolers you want to install the sending unit on the return line. This way you see oil temps after the cooler being pumped back into the tranny(or engine). I like this idea because you can see how efficient the cooler is, and know what oil temp the engine is actually receiving.

I just don't see how the oil pan is very useful, of course its going to be hot, it just came out of the engine. I don't know I guess I'd be arguing with the engineers of mitsubishi lol

I'm not a huge fan of them, especially since they're going to be right by the pick up. Would be my luck that some of the metallic sludge would get sucked into the motor and devour turbos or something :P Had a question about the dilution and iron PPM for the Saturn. Namely, were they including the iron accumulated on the magnetic drain plug in their results or just what was in the oil? If they included what was on the plug and just doubled amounts couldn't that skew the numbers since it accumulates there rather than exiting with the oil that is consumed? I just find it odd that it pretty much doubled compared to stock despite adding nothing. Are they saying that the wear metals would be leaving the engine due to burning oil (ie. exiting the motor during the combustion?) If so, wouldn't the plug be holding onto most of the iron metal and therefore they would be throwing off their results?

They don't indicate if the chart on page 2 has the corrected values or not, or the graph later on. I would guess that they did correct for that aspect of it properly in which case it seems to have made little to no difference. I suppose the biggest issue, IMO, with a magnetic drain plug is that it can't capture any of the bearing material (as it's non ferrous), or some of the other possible signs of wear. Capturing iron may be of value, but capturing bearing material would be better since if you're getting excessive wear to the cylinder walls, pistons or crankshaft then you're probably going to see bearing wear first. Or maybe I'm just totally over thinking this.
