Cool. Didn't realize that would work. I'm running the a1 studs but good to know anyway.

So small update. I'm now in the process of building a custom intake manifold. Not one that has a hacked off plenum and a bigger one welded on. I am however using the flange off of the factory intake so I don't have to make one. I'm getting it machined before and after welding to ensure it's flat. It will not curve back like the factory plenum does.
It will have about 3-4 inch runners from the end of the lower intake to the plenum. So about 8 inch total runner length. This should bring my power curve up and over and help my cams make maximum power. I am using 6 velocity stacks (one for each runner entering the plenum). I will most likely have hood clearance issues, but I'm not worried about that. I have yet to determine the actual plenum volume. Will be doing so soon though. Here is the flange before machiningimage.jpg
Been there done that. You may not be happy with the results. With runners that short, you will not have much grunt before 5,000 RPM. Would love to see a nice ITB system. We had a lot of time in what we did.
ITB Butter Fly is way too far from face of Valve. Should be about 4 3/4 inches to face of valve. And overall runner size too short, unless you run about an other 8 inches of velocity stack on it for Ram tuning.
Your butter fly or bore at the the butterfly needs to be around 45mm. That's big, like about the size used on Big Block Chevy motors with ITBs.
ITBs even with out a single Style plenum will have a vary narrow power band. Most race teems that had gone ITB back in the 90s to about mid 200s are back to running single TB with large plenums Runner and Plenum tuning can give much better power curve than ITBs. In fact. huge power bands can be had like from 3000 RPM to well over 9000. That is a sick power play ground. ITBs will have 1 or 2 short lived power bands. Most likely under a 3000 RPM spread at best. Vary small play ground. WE did a lot of testing and prototyping. Spent a lot of money. Than a lot of reading. The results was the more power you produce with ITBs, the narrower the power band. In line motors respond better to ITBs better than V type. BMW in line 6 cylinder M3 Still uses 6 ITBs with single plenum for about 300 crank HP. My NA run s circles around them. I have links to Honda/Acura Engineering Studies and formulas for ITB and runner and plenum sizing if you are interested. I am sure I can dig them back up. Our R&D was for NA power only. Your turbos may help overcome the short falls of the ITBs. Sounds like a cool build ether way. Good luck.

So I ponied up today and bought some big boy cams to match the heads. Should help mid and top range power272/272 duration with a .398 lift. Should do the trick
Selling the e316g turbo kit. Pm me if your interested, will be going in the for sale section. Decided to go with a single turbo, Garret's new gtx4202 or 94 turbo
PM'd about just the turbos. Any progress on your intake mani? I'm considering the same, using part of the runners as a mounting flange. Not much room under the hood though for decent plenum volume.
GTwizard, you have a dyno of when you tried a plenum mounted directly to lower runners? Would love to see it! I'm gearing my car towards max power in the 5-8k range so if that mani wakes up hp in that range vs stock, it would be perfect!
No new progress made on the intake mani. Got the flange back from the machine shop though, I had it milled down to be perfectly flat, and free of foreign debris for clean welds. Then just last week, this happend. image.jpgimage.jpg she's totaled. A pillar is bent in, obviously the door, fender, and good are trash. And the knuckle, control arm, strut, subframe and subframe mounting bolts are bent.so no more fwd tt project. On the upside, I now have a mostly complete 99 conversion for the 1g vr4, and the built engine is also going into that.
So I guess I need to rename the thread, Yet another single turbo vr4
damn that sucks.
