    Weird Clutch Issue

So i have owned my 3kt for about 4-5 years now and ever since ive had it its had a weird clutch issue. At least one time a year i had to add more fluid to the reservoir, which makes me think that it has a really slow leak in it somewhere since i drive it every day. But recently in the past year its developed a new issue. Every couple weeks the pedal seems so just stiffen up and there is no play in the clutch, its just all pressure. Also when this happens my clutch likes to slip if i try to give it too much power, like the clutch is not fully engaged. This can be fixed my loosening the adjusting screw and turning the adjusting rod one way and the pretty much back to its original position that i had it in. (factory recommended play).

I bought the car with 87k miles on it and at that time the master and slave cylinders had been replaced not only once but twice already. The previous owner gave me a binder with all of the previous work to the car.

It seems to me that they never really fixed the original problem with the clutch system and this could possibly be causing all of the issues. Any suggestions on where to look?

Sounds like a bad clutch disc. Probably a spring/hub problem

I have the same problem and I havent found the answer yet, but I havent looked too hard to find it either.
Master cylinders have a compensation port to allow for fluid expansion. That port is open when the MC is at rest. If the port is blocked by debris or closed off from partial engagement, then the hydraulic system pressures up. THATS when your pedal gets "stiff." When it has excess pressure the clutch is partially disengaged and it slips. You are doing the right corrective action by readjusting the pushrod.

I leave a wrench in my console for those days when the adjustment goes wacky. Someday I'll find a reason for the behavior.

They lied to the previous owner and didn't replace the slave. If you are losing fluid you have a leak and most likely it's the slave. If not the slave then it's a line but I bet slave.

Is this an NA or a TT? If it's an NA you can just check the carpet right under that push rod. If there is fluid there then it's the master. Ether way it's master, slave or leaking line.

Its a NA and the carpet under the dash is clean. I think the weather here in Mi is starting to warm up a little im gonna have to get under it in the next few days and check the slave. Where does the slave typically leak at?

They leak out the rubber boot, it's a protective type boot so that's not what really leaks but that's where you should see fluid.
