    Fuel Tank Vent question

I installed an IPS fuel hat yesterday and was having issues with a leak, turns out it was caused by excess fuel tank pressure due to a vac reduction and the vent line being capped. The fuel was bubbling out around the studs that pass through the fuel had for the electrical connections.

I added 2ft of vacuum line straight onto the line coming from the tank, my question is do I need the blue check valve? It seems to stick a bit and was still building pressure even with the line not capped in the engine bay.

Its almost completely stopped leaking now, Im going to use some Permatex fuel resistant sealant to completely seal the holes where the studs go through just to make sure.

the blue check valve is a charcoal canister to get rid of the smell of the vented air

Are you just going to let it vent to atmosphere? I still haven't found a good solution for this. Right now mine has the blue valve and the rubber hose dangling in front of the fuel tank lol

That's exactly how mine is minus the valve since it seemed to stick closed. How bad is the fuel smell like that?

something else is wrong if your sending unit is leaking like that. I've run the thing plugged and currently running totally stock venting/charcoal setup. no leaks, no smells.

The best setup is the stock setup.

Well when I originally did the vacuum reduction I had the line capped with a metal rod in the vac line and a clamp (in the engine bay). Checked it like a month later and the metal rod was gone. I figured it must have built up pressure (when I opened the gas cap it also released pressure). Left it alone and I smelled a little fuel.

I then did my fuel system and took out the vent hard line and haven't noticed any fuel smell. My car is, however, under a cover in the garage so I haven't got in it in a while.

The stock setup is pretty smart it is just nice to get that crap out of the engine bay. My main concern, however, is flammability/safety issues with it venting. I guess the only real difference between my setup and stock is the canister though... Is that what makes it safe or are the vapors not a safety risk?
