I second the Focus ST. There was one at two of the autocross events I've attended this year and the guy ran some impressive times.. The car handled corners very well, not just for a fwd either.

That's just... not correct. There are plenty of other options out there with manual transmissions and back seats. Options that don't make you have to tolerate a FWD car on a daily basis at that.

The Focus ST isn't a cheap car either. One with options is significantly north of $30K.

fwd isn't bad on a dd. the focus st is the kind of car that has been popular in europe for decades. and i'd be willing to bet that because of the turbo, it's way more fun to kick around than the brz.

Backseat and manual= Subaru WRX STi. Be a sweet DD.. I'd like to pick one up in the future. Find a 07 ish with low miles.

I hate mentioning it, but a 2009 Cobalt SS was made as a sedan. I really enjoy mine and with bolt ons and a tune I made 300whp and 331 wtq :-P Just good luck finding a sedan.

Oh and I get about 32 highway.

We have the Sonata turbo with paddle shifters.
It's fun to drive.
You kind of get the best of both worlds.
Something comfortable to drive on long trips but you can enjoy the sport element as well.

Get a Genesis 2.0T or 3.8.... That's what I have, and it gets about 36mpg hwy while having 322hp

And the back seats aren't tottaly useless

I think the idea is that when you drive a manual you have to do more stuff which limits your ability to multitask. It is much harder to have someting in both hands and drive a manual. Meanwhile we have brilliant atx drivers with a cup of coffee in one hand and a breakfast sandwhich in the other while they drive.

I don't know that everyone in manuals would make a dent in the number of accidents but it would dramatically change the way bumper to bumper traffic works. No more dragging the brake during idle speed crawling.
