LOL.. I guess we have a club...
Yeah sounds like it's ready for the scrap pile. BTW I have the same one but no tape yet. lol

What do the diagonals look like on it? You sure it's bad machine work or are the heads warped? I've seen heads mic close to that on a severe overheat with a blown head gasket. Do the 3d math and see if it's warped, and how bad. I bet its twisted 3 degrees on the z plane and atleast that on the x.

From what spot did you measure? Its hard to get a real accurate reading just using a caliper, because theres not exactly a perfect spot on the top of the head to measure from. a good machine shop will just take an equal amount off of the whole surface. The castings on that area are far from perfect. I thought the same with my heads back in the day but I started taking multiple measurements from a lot of different places and realized it was strait after all. Usually its not too far if you can still see the milling gauges, if you don't know what they are thats the indented circle on the head that has a flat spot, if they machine down and hit that then its too far and the head is scrap. Those spots are also the proper place to measure from to see if its machined evenly.

Let's clarify something now, just so I don't have to keep coming back to it:

There is no question "what" happened to this head... I didn't come here asking for advice, or to be challenged on the obvious... You can visually see with your eyes what they did, the measurement was just for you guys.

I just thought it was hilarious that someone could fuck up a simple machine operation so bad, and particularly not hilarious that it ended up on someones car anyway....

Agree with you there. I'm also wondering how this was measured cause the pics posted don't show the top of the caliper. Not saying your wrong RealMcCoy, just wondering on your measuring method.

I've just always measured the depth from the center of the circle to the edge. If all three spots where the same and the plane was within spec the head was true.

Wow.. this thread made a left turn in Albuquerque...

Yes I do know how to use a simple measuring device... I swear some of you guys would question a plumber's ability to use a pipe wrench.

It was measured from the valve cover gasket surface to the head gasket surface.... That is the overall height of the head specified at 5.200" in the manual.
