Whats the clutch of choice these days for a bpu++?

This is for a friends car with 16t's and supporting, most likely will never see a track and he is running an 18 spline so a little bit of slip is not a bad thing.

Last I heard people were avoiding the sprung hubs, so I was thinking a Spec stage 2+ unsprung? I will not buy another SB unless its a stage 5+ modified like I run so dont bother mentioning that.

Maybe an rps pp and stock disk, who sells just the pp these days?

Thanks, I just really hate shopping for clutches with my luck, and I will feel terrible if this clutch doesnt last for him.

When I got my first RPS pp I got just the pressure plate and used an OEM disc ... I forget who it was but that means someone, somewhere sells em separate. I think that'd be a solid choice, I've only ever ran RPS max pressure plates with oem discs and it's always held everything I've thrown at it.

Just don't keep up the clutch too much or you'll have a clutch swap in a parking lot on your hands :whistles:

Stock clutch will hold pretty good, if he doesnt plan to launch the car, and it will be very nice to drive that way. Otherwise a mild PP will hold a decent launch and hold a bit more power as well.

IMO, I'm running a BPU @ 15psi on 9b's and I use an Exedy OEM replacement clutch w/ an OEM flywheel. Well over 20 pulls and almost 2 years later it's still holdin strong.

ACT MB019 pressure plate and stock disc holding great for me:
    http://www.amazon.com/ACT-Technology...5697535&sr=8-1

Light pedal feel and excellent streetability. Ordinary people wouldn't realize it wasn't a stock clutch.

The RPS plate is great too, but about $100 more.

The stock clutch disc is holding up to 19t power for you? Wow, I guess I didn't realize how much a pressure plate does for holding power. I've got an ACT, Centerforce, and a Southbend pressure plate sitting at home, but I always figured I'd need a good performance clutch to be able to hold the extra power I'm running. A stock disc at probably $70 sounds A LOT better than $500 for a spec 2+

sure, the RPS plate rated at 580 torque uses the stock disc. The act is rated at 500. RPS or ACT may take a bit of the marcel out to make it engage a little quicker, but the material is stock.

The act and RPS plates are around 30% more clamp load (the mb019, there is another Act plate that is less), so they support 30% more torque. The stock clutch is actually pretty good, so add 30% to what it can hold and you have a decent clutch.

Certainly if you aren't going to routinely launch then a stock disc based clutch is best for streetability and longevity.

If you drive like a fiend then a 6 puck or spec stage 4+ type disc with no center springs is the way to go.

Hmm so I'd be alright to use a stock clutch with any of my pressure plates and hold 15g power all day long? Even with launches and spirited driving? I was under the impression that the stock disc was no good after about 400hp at the crank. The upgraded pressure plates must make an appreciable difference then.
