    2 Supra projects, 1 Garage

After putting down a respectable 468RWHP and running 11.3 @ 125MPH at BPU+ (which I believe puts me in the top 10 if the list was actually maintained) I've decided to kick off the single build on my Hardtop. My original plan was improve on the 11.3 and then install GSC S1 cams, Beehive springs, etc.. and take a shot at running 10's on the twins, but my impatience finally got the best of me. This project will have multiple phases, which I will do my best to document here over the course of what will actually be 2 projects -- 1) Single build on my Hardtop and 2) Swapping the twins over to my '97 auto. The auto is still running stock fuel, stock stall, stock auto, etc... so the 67mm is not the most responsive setup -- 12.8 @ 122MPH with a 2.3 60'.... I really wanted to do a built auto and high stall, etc... but later decided to focus my efforts on the Hardtop build. The stock twins in sequential on the auto with the 1# turned up will be much more fun on the street and should still run 11's @ 118-120MPH (yes I will be going back to the track afterward).

First things first, let's get those twins off!

One last look before the fun begins...

    After about 30 minutes..

About 1hr in - letting the PB Blaster soak in a little, which wasn't really needed. Next steps require jacking the car up and draining the oil and coolant

Front turbo - in perfect shape with absolutely zero shaft play

    Now the real fun begins....

The parts box is starting to fill up - since I plan to re-install these twins on the green car I'm taking extra special care to not cut or otherwise damage hoses, lines etc... This adds more timing and planning. Fortunately after only 44k well-cared-for miles, all of the hoses are supple, nothing is rust welded togehther, sludged up, etc... Everything is coming off nicely. And with the tried and true 'jack handle on the strut tower fulcrum to the stubby 14mm wrench' method, I made very short work of the "bitch bolt" on the EGCV. Who needs fancy tools when you've got leverage...!

With the EGCV out of the way, the oil lines and brackets (IMO the worst part of removing the twins) are more easily accessible. You can finally see the ground from the engine bay...!

Once the oil lines are off the bottom 2 bolts holding the turbos to the manifold are more easily accessible -- the rest of the job is a breeze from here. Almost there....!

With the turbos off, the bottom manifold bolts are easily removed. You can remove the turbos with the manifold still attached, but IMO it is WAYYYYY easier to remove the turbos first

View from the front -- Lots of cleaning to be done now!

The twins in all their puny glory:

Rear turbo in perfect shape with absolutely zero shaft play:

Made a huge mess but it's late and cold - not bad progress for a day's work:

I started around 1pm, worked for about an hour, took a lunch break and farted around for a bit, jacked the car up and worked until I got the EGCV off, ate dinner and farted around some more and then went back at it and finished up around 10pm. All told I'd say I had about 6-7hrs of work from hood off until the last pic. Not bad for taking my sweetass time and nothing but simple hand tools. This is only the 2nd time I've tackled this job, but the bigger challenge will be putting them back on the green car - now that's something I've never done...!

    Getting started on Green:

Letting the PB Blaster soak in a little on the turbine and manifold bolts:

    One last look...

    30-45 minutes later:

    Another 30-45 minutes later:

That was easy...! Garage is a mess, but I work well amid chaos:

The plan for today is to start re-installing the twins on Green. It's FREEZING in the garage this morning, though, so we'll see how far I get...

Beautiful cars, bays, parts... thanks for sharing what looks to be a pretty unique scenario. Long term goals for Red?

And I couldnt help but laugh at the use of "supple" in a car post. Mind immediately went to bewbs.

Taking a little lunch break - feeling pretty lazy today; not sure how much I'll get accomplished...

Adam -- The long term plan is built engine, true Flex Fuel (either Haltech or ProEFI) and a responsive 850-900WHP. In immediate short term I'm doing:

Double D tuning custom single manifold w/ Precision 66mm wastegate
    4" downpipe w/ wastegate recirculated
Precision 67mm P-trim turbo w/ .68ar open hotside (from the Boost Logic setup)
    GSC S1 cams
GSC Beehive valvesprings w/ Titanium retainers
    Titan billet tensioner bracket
    Titan/ATI dampener
    Fluidyne radiator

I'll be switching to either a Precision 6766 or a 7175 after I beef up the fuel system.

Next round of mods will be the fuel system and an EMS - both undecided at this point. I want to run some 10's on the stock fuel and ECU first. Built engine and some other odds and ends will either be this fall or next spring. I'm getting married in May, so that's put a bit of a cramp on the hobby budget for this year.

The yellow and green plane is a custom built 40% (~10' wingspan) Carden Extra 330, but there's also a 40% Carden Edge 540 in there as well. That's one of my other hobbies.

So why aren't you using the Boost Logic manifold? It almost looks like it would flow better.

The BL mani looks designed for a twin scroll. The collector on that double D (right back to bewbs) looks niiice. You going to run it uncoated?
