if i can make it happen i'll cover the exhaust and ds under the car to have under the car as flat as possible. the rear engine cars are so easy to make the under flat. my friend's mr2 is also all flat till the rear where the engine is. i also noticed prius have something like a small mud flap in front of the tire to cut air around them. i saw the same thing on a new mazda 3 today too so this must have some effect on aerodynamic.

GTR has a really similar hood as our 2ng gen hood and we might be able to use the vents from gtr on our hood. got to do some measuring, unless someone here do it before i do it. little to no drag and still having ventilation.

all that plus making the car lighter.
The flaps in front of the wheels is to provide more grip. So that the wheel dont have to roll over a cushion of air. I think the air resistance would be the same as far as aerodynamics.

Also those are intakes not vents on the gtr. If you where to put an intake on the hood i would place just one of those in the left lower corner to provide fresh air straight to the intake. Then a vent or two on the top position of the hood(hot air raises). Like the two vents on the 575 hood.

that's my plan, but on gtr they don't go to the intake as far as i can see. it looks like people use revered nasa duct to exhaust hot air. i am thinking to put one facing forward and two facing back.

    J. Fast, as promised:
    • 26" from the floor to the top of my front wheel well arc.
    • 17" from the floor to the top of the intercooler opening.
    • Under the front of my bumper is a reinforced airdam that a 3" floor jack will not slide under without forcing it. This goes side to side in an arc as the stock '99 does.

That's complete BS -- I've been quite a bit faster with the top off numerous times. It definitely does make a significant difference, though. The tracks are laid back enough here that I could probably get away with making a pass or 2 with the top off the green car just to see the difference.

On the topic, I think you'd need at least a legit 550WHP to hit a verified 200MPH on a pristine road. You'll need a setup that can effectively breath in the higher RPM's, which crosses most TD04 setups off the list. Eventually hitting 200MPH on a long enough road is one thing, but I'd more interested in seeing someone actually do it (or at least try it) at one of the Mile events. From what I've observed, it takes a legit 700WHP minimum for a Supra to hit 200MPH in the standing mile and ~900WHP to go 215MPH.

Hi JFast - Haven’t seen you for a while – glad you’re still on top of things.

To answer you question – I think 525 HP will take you to 200MPH, but as others have said, you’ll have to do something regarding your areo. Large open mouth grill areas do look quite cool but they are horrible when it comes to drag. I have no idea as to which year our cars had the least drag, but just by looking, it seems that my 1991 is a lot slipperier than your exposed intercoolers. Just my thought.

As you are very well aware, long pulls are significantly different than a flash dyno reading. Heat begins to build all over and perhaps your engine management system is pulling spark due to or in anticipation of detonation or other thermal engine damage.

As others have voiced, aero drag increase at about the square of speed but other parasitic drag occurs as well. Tire rolling resistance in addition to other rotational drags all add up. Also at higher speed, turbulence might begin to show it’s face and turbulence really kills speed. When it comes to airflow, turbulence is a total killer - it is way better to allow the air to flow around a car rather than through it

The underbody on my car is quite smooth as compared to some others. There are several air shields to flow the air where the Mitsu engineers wanted it to go. My car even has an air deflector in front of the radiator to help the air movement around the area in front of the a/c condenser. My recommendation is to keep all the underbody plastic stuff in place ‘cause it probably helps.

Contrary to another’s post, Bonneville salt has more drag than does dry concrete and the drag becomes more severe as the salt surface gets wetter. The SCTA allows record runs only in the early morning when the air is cooler and quieter too. A supercharged vehicle might very well run faster during the heat of the afternoon because of the higher density altitude but it’s prudent to ask someone who knows for sure. Like you indicate, thin air has less drag.

Here is a top speed site that I contribute to.

    Landracing Forum Home - Index

The posters on this place are all experienced top speed racers and will be able to tell you what it takes to get to your 200 mph goal. Our aero might be comparable to a Camaro or Firebird and the numbers require to do whatever with those cars will be very well known by the participants on this site. Most have exceeded 200 dozens of times so the knowledge base is quite complete. You have to register and post in the correct areas but the response you will get is going to be amazing. Be advised it might not be too smart in reveling your high-speed stuff on the public highways because these guys are seasoned top speed racers – there is a place for speed and I-70 east of Denver is not it – LOL.

To demonstrate how important aero is, here is a video of the BudFab motorcycle streamliner. He uses a 50 CC (three cubic inch motor) and went 147 mph.

In closing, here are a couple of videos of some a-hole idiot running his Stealth at Bonneville. He just doesn’t have enough motor! I ought to know ‘cause I rebuilt the entire car and it’s me doing the steering! LOL.

I would like to say my SL has been topped at 150mph, (corrected 142mph) at the time it was only a little over 200hp..

I can't imagine it would take more then 500+whp to brake the 200mph barrier in our cars.

I am in disbelief about DR's speed claims simply because there is no proof no videos or anything....any one doing such a high speed claim in a 3/s would think to record it....

I would really like to see someone document a 200mph speed test....

There is no way in hell you could get me to make a video of myself breaking the law and put it on the internet for all to see.

Me and hundreds of thousands of other people do it on a daily basis. have for years.

I have lots of friends who do too, I have yet to ever personally come across anyone who has ever got in trouble over it. maybe if your completely stupid and put your full information or something on it :P

its not worth it for police to spend the time and money watching internet videos to find such videos and then hunt you down and punish you for a crime that is AT MOST punishable with a fine, suspended license, and a few days in jail that would probably be served in hours allowing you to return home daily.

Please take a second to mature. Just because you and your "hard ass" friends think its cool to post videos of yourselves endangering civillions on a "daily basis" does not mean everyone should. A respectable business like DR doesn't need to post up a video of themselves breaking the law. "A fine, suspended license, and a few days in jail" is pretty serious shit. I don't know Matt personally, but I doubt he would risk the aforementioned consequences to back up his top speed claims to the guy with the n/a who calls B.S.
