The Garmin GPS in my car has highest attained speed locked in at 182 and that was done by Von Morgan when the previous owner had the car. I have IPS dyno sheets showing 400 awhp and 430 tq. So how much HP would be needed for the extra missing 18 mph?

edit - All I can say is I asked Von about the high tracked speed on the garmin screen and he told me it was he, not the previous owner that put it there.

2nd edit - I found this while looking for some info. The BSF Ion Red Line weighs 3900 lbs, so it is the same as a 3000GT and its .35 Cd is slightly better than a 3S, so in the real world in a 3900 lb car it takes a bit over 600 hp to get the 200+ mark it seems. http://www.modified.com/features/040...e/viewall.html

Hey, I'm pretty much at stock ride height. How much is your car lowered? I'd like to use Norwoods data to see how dramatic your ride height change shrunk the frontal area and effected your top speed.

Everyone is missing temperature. More specifically density altitude.

Ask any guy who has been to Bonneville. You always get your top speed in the afternoon heat vs running in the cooler morning where you have more HP. Drag from dense air has a higher effect on top speeds then HP loss from shitty afternoon air. Something as simple as wheel spoke design can mean a couple MPH alone.

From the above posted formulas: {New Required Power = Old Power (New Speed/Old Speed)**3}, where Old Power is total available rear-wheel power.

    In your case 531 AWHP.

Edit: that is assuming that 182 is all it had in it at the 400 AWHP level...

As you know Chris my uncorrected is 570whp that's real with DA, everything. It's certainly arguable that the temperature has a dramatic effect but as far as air itself I don't really buy the air differential argument for cutting through Denver air. Denver air is really really thin. That's why when visitors come to Colorado they can crack a baseball further, hit 400yard golf ball tee shots, and kick 65 yard field goals.

JohnnyTurbo, I see your frontal pic there. Here's what mine looks like.

Is my frontal area so significantly different than yours that my top speed is impacted that much?

I just have no clue why I can only crack 185 mph. Here you are running 184mph with 150whp less than me. My numbers are right inline with Norwoods results. So what gives?

What's your HP curve look like up around redline? If it's starting to fall off up there, you'll run out of gear...

Sure you haven't developed a problem you don't know about yet...? I would expect your power level to be able to hit two bills from what I've seen posted about these cars....

Using the same formula, with the 167 MPH advertised top speed for our cars, and an assumed 250 AWHP stock, it should take about 430 AWHP to hit two bills....

Stock vettes can do 185 and they only have 360ish whp? Z06 puts down 450 and can do 200. Base vette has a Cd of .28, Z06 .34

With taper I'm losing about 5% up top. That showed itself on the dyno. Everything is in top working order.

Only issue I encountered during testing was an oil light. I traced it back to the loom routed behind the engine not being adequately secured. The wires were too close to the exhaust, shorted, and triggered the dummy light.

I've opted for window nets in lew of windows. Think thats the culprit? Window-less adds too much drag?

Yes, absolutely. Windows make a HUGE difference having them up.

One thought I had Jer, I'm wondering how flat the road you were on really is? Even tapering up a few feet over a mile can add a significant amount of resistance. Couple hundred feet over 8 miles you wouldn't see, but wouldn't help, right?

I was just looking at this...

Of course you've been in the car for this but T3 to the braking at 4S is a ~60mph to 175mph area. A few feet of up and down but not much.
