Every time something like this happens, you can count on:

    1) blaming guns

2)gun manufacturers selling more guns by saying "they're gonna blame guns and take them away and you totally could have stopped this tragedy if you happened to have our product with you without any special training whatsoever"

3)people will completely ignore that this is a very rare event, and a textbook spree killing.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

I've wanted to post a meaningful response to this but a few things have stopped me. Firstly, this incident floored me and like many of the parents here, all I've done for the past few days is spend more time with my son. Secondly, I've been trying to find the words and probably most important, my wife gave me a honey-do list that included making a new batch of laundry detergent.

While information still rolls out on a daily basis, it must be admitted that claims, opinions and beliefs can and will change in regards to what happened. What will not change is that almost thirty people lost their lives that day, many of them children. To me, that is the most important thing to take note of. Not how he did it and with what weapons (or where he got them), nor why he did it. At this point, I'm ashamed to admit that I can recall the name Adam Lanza without looking it up but I have to look up the names of those killed. This is what the media has encouraged over the years - the fact that if you go out and snuff innocent life on a relatively large scale you will be always remembered; your name will be on every tongue and every brain cell in the country at a time when the shooter may not have even felt to exist. This, to me, is the most tragic disservice we can do to those who were lost, those who have lost.

At the time that I write this, I'm convinced more than ever that we do in fact need to find fact need to be more proactive in helping treat people who suffer from mental disorders. Church, doctors, counseling - to me, it doesn't matter. Every single person on this board knows that the changes to gun law many in power would propose would do little to prevent further tragedies like this, short of full confiscation and destruction, which none of us want or support.

We must care for our children, so that our children grow up to care for those around them. Not in an attempt to turn everyone into some bleeding heart sap who cries over stubbed toes, but so that thresholds are established as a means of providing help beyond simple friendship.

We must also protect our schools and all places of learning for those who would wish to inflict harm in them. Will it fully prevent violence? No. But we can do it for these people:

    Charlotte Bacon, 6
    Daniel Barden, 7
    Rachel Davino, 29

Someone - not me - needs to start another thread about this.

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

as sad as it is jeff, it's much easier to remember osama bin laden's name than the 3000+ names that died on 9-11.

You are a perfect example of someone who is far too stupid and gullible to have ever been allowed to decide anything, for any person.

I have probably played a few thousand (yes thousand) hours of violent video games, as have lots of my friends. I am positive that between all of them not a single one would commit a crime like this.
Uhhh R/T93, mine is a sarcastic response to Jeremy in post #5 to which I believe is a sarcastic statement. At least I hope it is. Mine was a statement that mirrors what the gun owners hear as a first knee-jerk response and your answer mirrors what the gun culture always echos back - don't blame the good gun owners because of a nut job or two.
Violent video games are not good at all for those with sick minds nor is access to guns, but the solution is not to ban either one.

I have a granddaughter that is age appropriate to have been in that class and my wife and I really don't know what to think if Ashley would be in a situation like that. She is in a newer school building that has all the latest in security that keeps nut jobs out. Now we see so did this school and it makes us wonder if any school is safe when the nut job at hand is determined and has a plan.
