Well, this is a thread I never expected to makeLong story short, I went to a private airfield event and blew my engine. Had the car towed back to my garage. Car wouldn't start so I checked a number of things to no avail. Pulled plugs this morning. I dropped a long screwdriver into #1 and lined up all the timing marks on the cams. By the way the marks can be seen through the clear timing covers. Anyway I confirmed the timing is fine. Unfortunately the plugs are not fine. #1 is closed, #3 normal, and #5 is broken. All indications of detonation and broken piston lands. I haven't pulled the rear plugs but I think it's safe to assume the pistons came in contact with the plugs and that's not good
SO, it looks like a rebuild is in my near future. I suppose the warning signs were there back in 10/2010 when I was getting knock counts on the dyno. The engine has about 104K so I guess an early 120K is probably in order as well. I wish I was back east so I could take it to Ninja. There aren't alot of options here on the West coast. I've thought about doing it myself but there's alot to learn and my wife isn't going to appreciate it if I spend the next several months in the garage.
So, help me make my shopping list for a rebuild.
