Thread: recommendation on aftermarket alarm

    recommendation on aftermarket alarm

The alarm that I had installed about a year ago is bad and I need to replace it.
It never worked right from the day it was installed and I am looking for another manufacturer other than the Python 460max

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket alarm that is reasonably priced?

I am looking for basics such as door, trunk, hood protection and shock sensors

Other features would be a bonus
    Thanks

I forgot to mention that the alarm was a passive alarm so that it automatically armed after a time period

I recomend DEI products, you can't go wrong with a viper alarm. The features you are interested in are pretty much standard on all units these days, so you have your pick of models and brands. The arming feature will require activation via a programming menu, but it will be there.

One thing I would suggest you look for is a unit with an external shock sensor. The current trend seems to be to incorporate the shock sensor into the alarm module which makes it difficult to find a good mounting spot in our cars for it.

Viper 5904 has an external shock sensor. I have one recently installed including a proximity sensor for the convertible. Little pricey though.

Thanks for the replies but I will not purchase
another Viper, Python or DEI product

I had nothing but problems with the company
    and alarm products

    Any other suggestions?

I want to say that the last one I installed was like a 5704 but the shock sensor was internal. Aside from that the only thing that threw me was the flex relay thing. It was my first time encountering that, but it was a simple fix.

These cars can be difficult if the etacs module is messed up as it can cause all sorts of faulty trips.

I guess the key question is what kind of unit did the OP have and what was the problem or problems?

then that is on the ETACS module, not the alarm. From OP post: "Python 460max"

Precisely, but for someone who might not understand the finer points of security components and trouble shooting their behaviour might not understand that. IMO the etacs module was the most unnecessary device on our cars and tends to be the cause of a significant amount of electrical gremlins.

Missed the part where he posted the model. Now for the hanging question of what the old unit was doing that earned it such a low rating from the OP. How was it not working right from day 1?

wonder if the OP will share.

Have you seen the new express kits that just plug into the factory wiring? I was told how I could get an alarm and remote start in my Grand Caravan that will use the factory fob as the remote, to arm and start the van.

Granted the range is limited by comparison, but I would sacrifice that to not have two fobs.
