    took her to the strip

so friday night i took the car to the strip. it was cold and i was spinning a lot off the line every time.

when i initially got there, i made a pass without trying on shifts or my launch and ran a 12.67, then they told me when i got to the light that they wanted me to wear a helmet or go slower than a 13.79. so i just tried to get a good 60', then i let out and got back into it after a couple of seconds. i attached the 60' time that i got in a pic.

so anyhow, i found a helmet to wear from a guy i knew at the track (got lucky on that one) and made some more passes. i ran a 12.79, then a 12.98 and i was getting pissed. i was spinning really bad off the line.

i wasnt happy with my best of a 12.6, so i kept trying and i bested a 12.3 (see timeslip for more info). i wanted a 12.5 or better and after i got it i quit.

    track elevation: 626.6 ft
    temp: 43 degrees
    humidity: 53%

so fast forward to today... i have never set the base idle on my car. i literally just slapped it together, and it ran so i was happy. well i checked it today, and it was so negative i couldnt even see the mark. so i set it to +7, and the car pulls better now. i mean, at the end of the day, a 12 second pass is nothing special, but considering i dont even hit my full boost (wastegate) until 3rd gear, im really not too upset. after i get my boost controller issues squared away (just need some time) i will be well into the 11's. and then once i get my fuel setup built, ill turn it up and shoot for 10's on 93 pump. my goal is a 9.99 on race gas all tuned out, but that will be a long time down the road.

and just giving some insight as to how my car runs, its not torquey at all due to boost not coming in full blast till 3rd gear. my wastegates crack open super early. i only hit about .95 bar in second at 7000 rpm's. its kinda disappointing but the car freight trains in 3rd. just hauls. so i think once i can get some boost at lower rpm's and get some torque the car will be a beast.

and i datalogged today when i messed with timing. 17.8 pulse width, and 92% duty clycle... these are HHH numbers. for those that are unfamiliar, the duty cycle's arent super accurate. but i dont have any knock or anything funky like that.

    other noteables:
    - i think i have friggen MR gears. i am in 4th well before i cross the 1/4 and i only trapped 113... soooo.... not so happy bout that

    - second gear is locking me out. i am going to mess with my shifter and clutch. if i push in the clutch with the car in 1st and rev it, the car jumps a little. i dont think its disengaging completely. but the trans doesnt grind, it just locks me out of second on hard shifts. oh well.

Would be 11's with the shifting figured out and a perfect tune. Race gas and another 10 psi would hopefully be another second. GJ Gnat-man.

How would you not know you have MR gears, I mean, you need a 5 speed rear end and a ring gear ordered from Japan. Can you contact the previous owner?

He got the car from the guy who used to import the Bozz Speed parts so MR gears aren't out of the question.

What rpm are you shifting? From the vid it sounds like you are short shifting?

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

If you are rolling while in 1st, clutch engaged, that explains your 2nd gear lockout.

Finally remembered to watch the vid, Nate.

She's fast, and you've got some ways to go, it's plain.

I think even you may be surprised, by the time you're done.
