Thats what was said when Gov. Aaaaahnold signed the repeal of the 30 year rolling smog window...

...as he drove off in his Hummer with a corvette motor that supposedly didnt need smog, courtesy of "dealer plates"

Japan. Why do you think the US is flooded with JDM imports of engines and clips?

Because people keep perpetuating that mileage myth? The only reason Japanese trade their cars in early is because of the cost of shaken. There is nothing that says they must retire their cars at any age or km's.

because of cost, exactly. just because an outright ban won't work doesn't mean the idea won't stick.

If you guys read the article, you would see that Paris would be the SECOND city to enforce this law. In other words, it has already been done before.

MI being progressive has nothing to do with it not having emissions testing any longer. Detroit had testing up until 1995, and there were plans to start testing in the Grand Rapids area. The backlash from the populace and the fact that people were paying off private testing sights to get passes on cars that had no right to it were enough that the state legislature decided it wasn't a good idea and dropped it. Chances are it won't come up again for a long time because of the political suicide that it would entail from those that remember the last time.

I could totally see this coming up again. The biggest beneficiary from this would be the automotive industry. Something our government has a huge stake in. Not saying this is coming our way, but if you look around, look at the current trend, look at who is in power, I dont see it as a stretch.
