    Veterans day message 2012

    ALMAR 041/12
    MSGID/GENADMIN/CMC WASHINGTON DC DMCS //
    SUBJ/VETERANS DAY MESSAGE 2012//
    GENTEXT/REMARKS/

SINCE THE FOUNDING OF OUR NATION, BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES HAVE RISKED AND SACRIFICED MUCH TO SECURE PEACE AND PROSPERITY FOR THEIR FELLOW AMERICANS.

ON 11 NOVEMBER, WE DEDICATE THE DAY TO HONOR ALL MILITARY VETERANS WITH THE RESPECT AND GRATITUDE THEY SO RICHLY DESERVE. THEIR LEGACY REMINDS US THAT SELFLESS SERVICE IN THE DEFENSE OF LIBERTY IS A HALLMARK OF ALL OUR MILITARY MEMBERS.

AS WE COMMEMORATE AND PAY SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO VETERANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, MAY WE DRAW INSPIRATION FROM THEIR SERVICE TO THE NATION. I KNOW ALL WHO WEAR THE EAGLE, GLOBE AND ANCHOR WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD UPON THE ILLUSTRIOUS HERITAGE OF THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE US AS MEMBERS OF AMERICA'S MILITARY. ON THIS HALLOWED DAY, IT IS ALSO APPROPRIATE TO REMEMBER THE SACRIFICES MADE BY THE FAMILIES OF OUR VETERANS, WHO LIKEWISE HAVE BORNE THE HARDSHIPS OF MILITARY SERVICE.

HAPPY VETERANS DAY AND SEMPER FIDELIS!

JAMES F. AMOS, GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS

Our eternal thanks and appreciation to those who serve and sacrifice.

You are in my constant prayers.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
