    Gen 1 Passenger airbag

Hey guys, I think this might be my second post considering I don't have my stealth yet. I'm buying a 91 with a 'new' motor and some serious performance mods that come in a box with it (Some Assembly Required!).

Anyway, I plan on doing a black interior swap some time in the future, and if I buy a 2g black dashboard with the airbag cut out and buy the airbag and sensor(s) would I be able to wire it up to work? Or does this sound like a nightmare? I'm mostly thinking of the safety of my fiance if anything horrible were to happen during a joy ride.

no such thing. afaik, i don't know if its ever been done (maybe hans has done it....he's batshit crazy to try anything "never been done before").

i'm fairly certain you'd need to use a 2g srs module (not just sensors).

We have a full 2g black interior swap with functional airbag in his satin black 91 3000gt. I believe it required the entire interior/body harness to be swapped, we also swapped the engine harness, etc. He would have to post up the details, but it CAN be done. We used a complete 98 donor car for our swap though, the only thing 91 about our car is about 85% of the chassis.
Circa 2005... Oh my, how far I've come

I'm not sure if it would be just an easy swap. The way the srs computers handle an "impact" are different on the newer ones. They don't use impact sensors in the front of the car, they use a g sensor inside the vehicle. You would probably need a 94-95 SRS computer, passenger side air bag, and the harness for the air bag to go to the SRS module. I think the other existing plugs will be the same, but don't quote me on that.

Wow, it does sound like more work than I thought. What is the SRS module? I've never heard of that before

srs module is the master computer of the airbag system. srs check is the light that pops on the dash when you first key the engine.

    Thanks for the input.

This might be a dumb question, but would a properly set up 4 point harness make a decent substitute since the car doesn't have an airbag already?

Just thinking if it would make a cheaper quick fix until I decide to tackle the real problem head on.

4 point harness is a no-no, especially without a roll cage. 4 point harnesses can cause submarining (sliding right under the belt and into the dash), whiplash will be worse unless you're using a HANS device (you need a helmet for using HANS devices), as well as holding your head straight up against the roof in a rollover (broken neck, ouch).

Thats what I thought. Just wanted to make sure everything I read about them was a common consensus and not just hear say.

Should I really be worrying too much about the passenger airbag?

I wouldn't worry about it that much.
