    Quick Clutch Question

About two months ago, I changed my clutch pedal "calibration" (the nut by the pedal) because it wasnt within the factory specifications. About 5 weeks later, the clutch finally started to slip (it was the stock one on a 151k mile car).

I ordered an ACT HDSS clutch kit from Maximal and had it installed yesterday. This clutch engages VERY quickly, and I have a ton of freeplay (Ill get you specs tomorrow morning).

The clutch is actually so grabby that the car is hard to get going in 1st gear. Ive actually stalled on flat surfaces, and Ive NEVER stalled the car ever before. This is the first stick car that Ive owned and driven, so I dont know what to expect.

If I change the amount of freeplay by minimizing it, then can it make the clutch slightly less grabby?

    Thanks!

I don't think you will be able to adjust the clutch pedal to change how well the clutch engages. I had this problem with my RPS 6-puck clutch + lightweight flywheel. It just takes time to get used it.

I was afraid of that. Im sure Ill get used to it in a couple weeks.

Just one more question.. When the clutch breaks in, is the engagement smoother?

Anytime you change the clutch you usually have to go back over and adjust the pedal. Your free play is out of spec again, I can almost guarantee.

A full face clutch is slippable, a 6 puck is not, so you will be able to adjust how it engages.

I just went out to adjust the freeplay, and the freeplay is back in spec. The car is now drivable, but still engages quickly. After break in, will the engagement be slightly less aggressive?

I beleive it isn't necessarily engaging quickly, you are just not used to the heavier pressure plate.

At one time when my car sat for a few months I was driving my dad's 5 speed Toyota pickup. I got back in my Stealth and fired it up and I stalled it 4 times before I got used to the pedal engagement again.

Drive it for a few days and you will get used to it.
