Fedex charges a $55 fee for oversize packages but will probably cost about 125-150 with freight or fedex

If you know someone that has an account you can get a good rate. We get something like a 85% discount at work on freight. You'll also likely want it shipped to a business with a loading dock to avoid additional charges.

loading dock not a real concern, I had a trans shipped to my church, I met the truck at the chruch, backed my truck up to the semi, smooth like butter from semi trailer to truck bed. BUT a commercial address WILL be cheaper.

I think it more has to do that the delivering to a business address means it is easier to drive the semi to.

That's what I was getting at too. If it is not a commercial address there are additional fees.

IIRC FedEx Ground or Home Delivery has a 75 or 100lb weight limit (think dimensional weight), anything over that will have to go Express ($$$) up to 150lbs.

Fed Ex Home delivery weight limit is 70lbs.

Where would I go to find freight companies?

One I used when I shipped an ATX trans was DB Schenker. I shipped a 250 lb crate from PA to FL for something like $175 with them.

I tried using them for a tranny shipment and they said they were commercial shippers only now in the States, or something like that.

But I did use them for my short block years back.

I had the same issue. I called a local garage that I know the owner of and he let me have it picked up there. I gave him the cash for the pick up and he wrote a company check to pay for it since he, obviously, didn't have an account.
