If you are taking food and you are in that part of the mountains you need a bear bag. You want to put your food and anything heavily scented in a bag, tie a rope around it and throw the rope over tree limb and pull the bag up to at least 10 feet. Keep this bag away from your tent site and you shouldn't have any bears trying to get in your tent for food.

At that elevation you probably won't be able to get a fire going with any wood you find on the ground because you will be in the clouds at night and morning so everything will be saturated. It's also going to be considerably cooler at that altitude at night so make sure your gear is suited for low 40's or colder.

We have a starter log, hopefully that will help. I'm also going to bring some food that doesn't need to be cooked.

not familar with where you are going but i would pack at least a 357 just in case, sometimes the 2 leg critters are the most dangerous
