    Our typicall Apple Customer

Lady came in this morning who knew the owner, who came down to talk to her. I happened to be walking by and overheard her talking to him.

Lady: First thing, I want the iPad mini, as soon as possible.
    Boss: Ok!
Lady: Next, I have the iPhone 4S but I want the iPhone 5 - pause while looking serious at my boss - What does it do?
Boss: It has 4G and a taller screen!
    Lady: What is 4G
Boss: Allows you to transfer data over 10x faster than 3G!
Lady: I don't use my phone for the internet, that's why I want the iPad.

I had to walk away as I started cracking up. She obviously has no IDEA what she is buying. She probably doesn't even know that the mini will most likely be wifi only. And the fact that I came back a couple minutes later and she was still confused as to what 4G was.

Granted this type of brain activity isn't limited to Apple customers but definitely a majority, in our store at least. They want something SO bad but have absolutely no idea what it is they are purchasing.

That's terrible. A woman I know recently said she got an iPhone because they are what classy people have. Then she couldn't figure it out so she forced it on her granddaughter who hates it. She had a bionic.

Not to pick on Apple customers too much, like you said it's not just them. People just need to figure out what works best for them. Stop buying media devices just to one up your social circle.

As I was watching that video another lady came in and told one of our sales reps her her daughter told her to come in and get the iPhone. He informed her that we don't have any in stock, that she would have to place an iconic order and wait. She really didn't want to wait and asked if there are any at all in the back. Again he said no but offered several other smartphones to choose from if she wanted to take a look. She simply said "No, I just want the iPhone" Granted, she has never even seen an iPhone!

Was like my youtube walked through the door and became real life lol

I can't easily stand up for those people, but I can tell you that we're not all that way.

I know exactly why I purchased my first iPhone, and I know why exactly I've upgraded since then.

On another note, go find a 3S owner (that doesn't browse the forums or that doesn't know/care much about cars), and ask them why they purchased a 3S. I can almost guarantee you most of them will say "because of the looks"... doesn't that sound familiar?

Now go track down that old lady that you see driving the TT/VR4 around town. Do you think she races it? Does she really need twin turbos? To many us that sounds like a waste, but really, who the hell cares?

It's definitely not limited to iFans. I do think the hype surrounding the iPhone has a lot to do with the majority of our Apple customers just wanting something while knowing absolutely nothing about it. TBH it's not really the phones fault.

Plain and simple, the iPhone is a "designer brand" in the cell phone market. No different than Channel purses, or BMWs. Its more of a status symbol than anything else. That fact trumps any other reasons for buying it.
