Hats off to Triple Crown winner...

...Miguel Cabrera - I am old enough to remember the last Triple Crown winners, Carl Yastrzemski and Frank Robinson, who were, coincidentally, my favorite ballplayers when I was a kid.

Tigers' Cabrera wins Triple Crown of baseball in season finale | Fox News
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

Hell of an accomplishment. I'm a huge baseball fan, and I always love seeing milestones and major achievements like this happen. I even made sure to watch what little of the game they showed on the MLB Network.

And for as good as Trout's season has been (could be regarded as the best rookie season in MLB history), I still think Cabrera needs to win the MVP.

I tend to lose track of baseball, because, having coached for so long, I am more absorbed watching battery play and technique, rather than rooting for teams - as a kid, I was a fan of the Orioles (my Dad is from Baltimore), the Cards and the Red Sox, but never the Tigers.

Nevertheless, I may just go and buy a Cabrera jersey.

Yeah, it was nice to see a triple crown winner... Kind of a shame to see the numbers so tempered by the return of dominant pitching, but I'm OK with that

Can't believe the Orioles made the playoffs. Baltimore @ Texas tomorrow night... I'll be watching for sure.

The triple crown has become one of the hardest and rarest achievements in sports. No hitters used to be rare, but have become common once again. To be able to accomplish a triple crown in an era in baseball where pitchers are throwing no hitters 4, 5, 6 times a season is even more impressive. You younger guys reading this, remember and appreciate what Cabrera has done, because you may never see it again in your lifetime.

Indeed - rarer than it's equine equivalent.
