Nathan, don't you have the SCE bolts on the rears?

I'm thinking that's what the difference is.

Does anyone have a pic of them on a 1G? I've only done one brake job and I'm curious what you guys are talking about.

SCE bolts don't exist for 1G rears.

Sorry I meant to say the spring or clip or whatever. I have the SCE bolts for the front and as you said, no luck for the rear on a 1G.

The rear is a sliding caliper. How would stiffening bolts apply?

That anti-rattle spring is critical for your sanity. Roll your windows down and roll the car back and forth and you'll some ridiculous clunking. With the cross shaped spring in place there's no clunk. The pads will also migrate if your pistons aren't stuck so you'll get the clunk during nearly every stop without the cross shaped spring. I lost a couple of those springs (brand new, they just didn't want to stay on) so I had to bend them a bit further on the hooked end to keep them on.
