Best stuff for breaking loose bolts

This info should be stickied or something. Cool little study, going to have to try this ATF/Acetone mix.

Rusty bolts? Make your own super rust penetrant!
    Suggested by John Brown
So you deal with a lot of rusty nuts? Go down to the hardware store and buy some acetone, a quart of Dexron Mercon and a refillable spray bottle. In the spray bottle mix the ATF and acetone in a 1:1 mixture.

Spray away and get your nuts loose!

Independent testing of penetrating oils using a single steel bar with 1/2”x20 nuts torqued to 50 ft/lbs and treated with a 10% salt water solution that was allowed to rust. Listed are the chemicals and required removal torque.

    -None ………………… 516 pounds

    -WD-40 ……………… 238 pounds

    -PB Blaster …………. 214 pounds

    -Liquid Wrench ….. 127 pounds

    -Kano Kroil ………… 106 pounds

    -ATF-Acetone mix….53 pounds

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” -- Author Unknown

I'm definitely going to have to try that mix out. PB Blaster doesn't seem to do much most of the time. I've gotten in the habit of anti-seizing everything now, stinkin rust.

I wonder how long they let them sit before trying to break the bolts loose. PB Blaster worked A HELL OF A LOT better for me than Liquid Wrench. WD-40 should just be sold as a lubricant, it's worthless for breaking anything rusty free. I didn't know about the Acetone/ATF mix. I'll have to try that next time I've got a rusty bolt. Wish I had known about that last fall.

I was going to say, I've only had one nut I couldn't get off with PB Blaster. Doesn't mean I wouldn't have liked help on the other bolts/nuts though, haha.

I typically use the cheap penetrating oil. If that doesn't work I use a bigger wrench/breaker bar. If that doesn't work I get the torch out. If that doesn't work I get a cutter out.

Yep, been there done than. Nothing like rust welded bolts holding the LCA to the subframe.

That's why I include new bolts with my control arms...every car I've ever isntalled control arms on have had the stock bolts rusted into the bushigs. A saws-all between the bushing and the bracket is the easiest way to get them off.
