i have an xd40 as my home defense/cc weapon. i love it , im a bigger guy so in the winter the shoulder holster is barely noticeable and the mob holster i have for the other seasons still fits pretty well. i bought mine for 400 out the door at a pawnshop that said it was used, thing had never even been fired. oh and i got the hicapacity 13 round one.

please do us all a favor and take a class and do some practicing before buying your first hand gun, maybe start with a rifle, guns are dangerous but can be fun.

    I kinda' agree.

I would only really get a .45 ACP in a 1911 to be honest. The .44 mag would make a really fun gun. I do want one at some point. That and a .357 mag. If you want it for home defense, I say forget hand guns all together and get a tactical shotgun.

Ya itll be mostly for range/home protection, and cc if WI ever gets it... Probably will hunt small game with it, Im more of a bow guy for deer.

We have shotguns and rifles...and Ive shot a good amount, not a handgun yet though...Im not a big guy, only 130lbs 5'7, would I not have much fun at the range with a 40, 44 or 45? compared to a 9mm..

A .357 would be pretty sweet too.

    I took hunter safety. lol..

What do these classes consist of?

9mm is starting to sound nice...Who makes good quality and not tooo expensive 9mm? Ill probably end up buying a used one first..

You could still definitely have fun. However, 45 ACP ammo is WAY more expensive and not really than much more fun to shoot. If you are willing to spend the coin on expensive ammo that is going to be noticeably more fun to shoot than a 9mm get a .44 Mag. .44 Mag > .45 ACP, .40, & 9mm by a long shot.

I have 2 9mm I have a Ruger P85 pre-ban 15 round mag my dad bought it new in 1988 and maybe shot it 3 or 4 times. In the 3 months I have had it I put 1,800 rounds through it and still shots great.
My CCW gun right now is a Kel Tec P11 9mm it's really small with a 10 round mag but might get the Kel Tec PF9 and sell my other one.
For home defense lol I have a 1959 Savage shot gun that is more for scaring them then shooting.

The advantage of .45 is big hitting power in a relatively small package. Also, its subsonic with is nice if you have a silencer.

Almost nobody has a silencer. I'd take one if I was relatively close range with a very large person threatening my life. Otherwise, give me a more practical and more accurate 9mm or .40 that doesn't go < 1,000FPS.

Handgun Cartridge Power Chart - Condensed Version

the lowest percent on that chart for a .40 cal is still just as low as the .45 , 40 is just as effective and often times smaller
and technically the highest percentage on the .45 is 93% stopped in one shot withhydra shok ammo , the .40 has the same percentage. this chart and some other readings are what lead me to buy a .40 over .45 for ccw
