    wii u

specs just got released. will natively render in 1080p--that's the big one. $299 for base model, $349 for deluxe.

i will be buying one--though probably not at launch. this next gen console war will be decided by software support; as gaming has stagnated at 1080p, hardware will not be a limiting factor. i have very high hopes for this console--and i suspect that nintendo will deliver in spades.

Yay. Another console for children and girlfriends.

My Smash Bros addiction may win against my better judgement though. Who knows.

what possible logical basis could you have for this statement? it can easily handle 1080p gaming natively. so why in gods name can't BF and COD (and the 10,000 other me-too FPS's on the market) be played on it?

I didn't say you couldn't play them? Are you trying to imply children don't play FPS games? Spend 5 seconds on any game that supports mics and you will quickly find out that isn't the case. Lol.

then why is it "a system for girlfriends & children"? that implies that it can't support the "hardcore" crowd. the specs speak differently.

    Really?

The Wii has always been for children and girls like it just as much lol. If you don't see that then you need to get out more often.

I bet you the #1 consumer of Wii's were parents with kids with in the ages of 4-12

You have an odd way of interpreting things. It's "a system for girlfriends and children" because those are the people who are going to buy them. Not that it couldn't support the hardcore crowd. Although, I don't know how much you have played on Nintendos current network, every time I have, it's been a laggy nightmare.

The major part of the console market are fanboys.

Xbox fanboys are going to buy Xboxs because that's where their friends and the community they interact with are and it has their favorite exclusive titles .

Playstation fanboys are going to buy Playstation because that's where their friends and the community they interact with are and it has their favorite exclusive titles.

Nintendo will sell to the market share that it scooped up with the Wii. Wii's main market is children and girls. This new system is more than capable, but I don't foresee a noticeable swing from the hardcore crowd.

The "Hardcore" gamers will own more than one system because of exclusive titles.

I'll probably buy the next Xbox and this Wii just for Forza and Smash Bros.

I recently bought a PS3 just for one game, Dust 514. I've had the 360 for years now for all other games and community. The only reason I bought the first Wii was to play mario with my wife & daughter. It's reputation will follow through with the next console.

My mom bought a Wii for my brother a few years ago. The only person who plays it is my 5 year old nephew. The graphics suck. Its like playing N64 all over again. The games suck. Even the larger titles. Ever played Madden on Wii? HORRIBLE.

Its catered to women and children and its women and children who will buy it and play it.
