I fed up
I screwed up trying to install a new temp gauge (replacing my useless prosport). The new sensors is 1/8 NPT which I though was the same as the prosport's but maybe not. I think while taking out the old sensor the threads got destoyed, I can't thread the new sensor in. I was going to plug the hole with the old sensor until I could figure out what to do but it only threads in half way and wiggles side to side a little while it's in (turned the car on and it's obviously leaking now).
How do I go about fixing this?

Threadlock tape??
You can try using a sealant?
-
I know this will seem wrong but can you force it? Its brass correct ?
-
Threadlock tape won't work (I mean it might work on the old sensor, but that's only there temporarily to plug the hole). I can't get the new one to even begin threading in :( I'm thinking I'll have to do something along the lines of tapping the hole, but I'm not very good at that sort of thing. Is there another solution besides re-tapping the hole? If I do have to retap the hole, how do I do that...I would have to take the housing off the car right (I'm assuming otherwise the metal shavings would enter the cooling system)?

Is the line male or female ?
-
the line? the sensor is male which threads into the water neck (which is the female) and the one the threads are messed up on.
-
Oh thought you were hooking up the gauge not the senor, sorry for my stupidity. Just get a thread chaser or a tap. the small amount of metal that gets in there wont hut anything. If you are really worried then you have to pull the water neck and then retap it.

Thanks. One more question, I was just reading up and it seems the stock threading is 1/8 BSPT, the sensors are 1/8 NPT. Apparently they are very close and will usally fit (like the prosport one fit in there). If I use a thread chaser should I use NPT or BSPT?

Use the 1/8 NPT that the senor is. If its close it should clean up fine.

Lots of thanks! That worked like a charm.
