My beautiful baby girl

My wife gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, she was only 1lb 5 oz and 13" long. She was 17 weeks early. She was born at 8:58pm and passed away at 11:08pm. Holding her in my arms was probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

The doctors say that she had an abonormality at the base of her skull and it caused issues for the spinal cord, which didn't allow any of her organs to function normally. They said that she would have been born the same way if my wife had carried her the full 40 weeks. If it weren't for the abnormality she could have had a chance at life, even if it were only less than 5%.

It has been a tough process, I hope you all don't mind me sharing. It helps to alleviate some of the pain. The most amazing thing to me throughout this whole ordeal has been the amazing support we have gotten from friends and family, and most of all complete strangers.

I am very sad for your loss.
It's good to hear that you have loving support from your friends and family.

I can't pretend to know how it feels, but I'm sorry for you and your wife's loss. The community is here for you man.

sad man , your in my prayers

Been through that twice.

Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I can't imagine what that is like. Stay strong man.

My heart goes out to you and your wife. I can't imagine what you both are going through. By all means, we are here for you, so share whatever you feel you want to. If there is anything we can do for you or your family, please, just let us know. My sincerest condolences.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your family are in my thoughts. :(

Not even sure what to say, but sorry for you loss, and I hope you two get through this as painless as possible.

I almost started crying reading this. My little girl is almost 2 months old and I can't imagine having to give her up after such a short time. I really feel for you and will be saying a prayer for you & your family.

This is not the way such a joyous time as birth is supposed to happen :(

GOD must have had plans for your little girl. She is with him now, I am sure.

If you feel like talking there are plenty of understanding ears in chat....

You and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bob.

Very sorry to hear. :(

Got chills reading that. Given the title it was not at all what I was expecting. I opened the thread and was like, "no pics?!" ... Sorry :(

^That's the same process I went through. My condolences for your loss.

Jeremy

my brother is going through the same thing. They just found out that their baby wont make it :(

I have come back many times to this and don't know what to say other than Sorry. I have no idea what you are going through. But can only say, be strong.

Very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how I'd feel if it happened to my boys. We had a couple of scares ourselves with preterm labor, measurement discrepancies, and premature birth, but I never had to go through what you have.

Hang in there.

I am so sorry. That has to be devastating. My thoughts out to you, your wife and your family.

I cannot imagine. I am very sorry. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

Thank you guys for the kind words. It's been a struggle, but luckily my son makes it hard for us to stay sad. It's been a couple of weeks since we buried her. I'm not sure which was harder, holding her in my arms while she was passing away or having to carry her tiny little casket to her grave site. The worst part though is taking my son to a playground some where and seeing little girls playing and having fun, knowing I will never get that opportunity.

My wife and I are pretty sure we are done having kids of our own. There are too many risks, for both her and any potential future babies. I've always been against adoption, for fears of not being able to raise and care for a child that's not 'my own'... but after this my attitude has changed.

Thanks again you guys!...

Leland

Leland, I would beg you to re-examine your thoughts and explore adoption...all of the adoption stories I know are absolutely profound...not a bad experience in the bunch.

If you love a kid, any kid, they'll know it. :)

:( very sorry to hear.

Deepest sympathies - I wish you and your family the best.

In regards to adoption, if it means anything, I was adopted at 4 and it turned out great. I also got to reconnect with my birth family 20yrs later which is also great. Budget for Mother's day bites though - Adopted mom, birth mom, step mom, 2x grandmas, mother in law.

I don't know how I missed this thread a month ago. Sorry for the loss. I don't think I could have gone through with holding onto her the last moments. I couldn't hold it together long enough. Sometimes things in life seem surreal.

My sincere condolences.

Sorry to hear about this. My cousin had a similar situation. She was carrying triplets but had complications and went into early labor. 2 of the 3 did not survive and the 3rd had a very tough time getting through. She was emotionally broken but did not show it at all. I probably cried more than she did. Her son is almost 2 years old and has been in and out of the hospital countless times. He catches everything, but he has essentially been a bubble boy since birth. He had a therapist come to him to help him walk and get proper posturing for a while. He has gotten a lot better but he still has a long way to go. Its never easy to bury anyone especially a child, even though it wasn't mine it was one of the hardest things I had to do. I wish you guys the best of luck.
