Looking at the high preasure cell that been hanging over the mid-west all week thats driven the jet stream further north than is normally runs.
I'm not saying we have not had some effect on the climate, but this is just one of thoes freaky things that happens from time to time.
Too hot, too cold, too mild, too many hurricanes, too few hurricanes, exactly the right number of hurricanes, a tsunami in Japan, a volcano in the Phillipines or a dead whale washed up on the beach at Martha's Vineyard, and ALL proof positive of manmade global warming...
How can I possibly be skeptical?
I don't think anybody said that. Also I don't think anybody has denied that the earth has warmed up, just the reason has been the argument. Don't forget it was global cooling we were worried about before warming. We haven't been on this planet for even a blink compared to how long it's been able to support life. The continents have changed, the climate has changed A LOT. It will continue to change if we are here or not.
That being said, fuck it's hot today lol
Uh oh, continental drift.
Like global warming wasn't enough to lose sleep over...
A perfectly blustery 85* day... Life is goot!
Only 70 degrees in San Diego today. I want some warming, and I want it now!!
you can take some heat to sandiego hit 102 here today and with humidity it was a feels like 115
OMG its a heat wave, it must mean global warming.
OMG those record breaking snowfalls are just part of global climate change.
The Earth is cyclical and will do whatever it wants. Man can't affect the jet stream.
Because it is a warm summer? Does that mean two years ago we were in global cooling since we had an apocalyptic winter?
I don't know about "global warming" being the culprit... considering we are just now breaking heat records from the 1930s/1940s in TN.
Exactly. These *records that are being broken by a degree or two (and sometimes in a tie) are from the late 1800's to the early to mid 1900's.

I guess when the Earth warmed up and melted the ice from the Ice Age that was man made global warming too.
Can't wait 'til this interglacial period ends! Just wait 50,000 years and you will all be BEGGING for global warming.
Honestly it has not been any hotter here this year then the last few years,
I can live with the heat... sure the 10-15 days of 100-114* temps during the day was a little rough, but i can live with it. As soon as the sun went down it was perfect out.
I remember HOTTER days when i lived in Wisconsin when i was a child.
Definitely cooler here than it was 15 years ago.
LOTS cooler...
Alex, an engineer such as yourself ought to have the wherewithall to respect the fact that one occurrence of a particular phenomenon is not evidence of causality. By your logic, if we hit record lows this winter, we could just as easily say that global warming doesn't exist.
I don't think anyone disagrees that the Earth has been in a warming trend for the past 100 years (read: 100 of the Earth's 4.54 billion years of existence). The debate is whether that warming trend is anthropogenic. Have you sat in lectures on the subject from either side? One of my engineering professors gave a brief lecture discussing the discrepancy between anthropogenic global warming theory and physics and his argument was quite compelling. The media (and the far left in general) would have you believe that there is an overwhelming consensus within the academic world on anthropogenic global warming, but I'm here to tell you that based on my experiences that is simply not the case.
Is it possible that carbon emissions has an effect on climate? Absolutely. But let's not jump to conclusions on a science that is still in its relative infancy. There is still a fairly significant disconnect between the theory and the empirical data, and with the scandal that brought about doubts of measurement bias in said empirical data, its pretty understandable that many in the general public and the academic world are skeptical of the theory. There are a slew of factors that determine the climate on this Earth, so you can imagine how difficult it would be to have enough evidence to narrow down the cause of climate trends down to one specific variable. I only wish climatologists would take the kind of care the CERN scientists have in their studies as the science of both subjects is incredibly uncertain.
The earth has been warming since the ice age. Dont fear that the climate is warming, fear what caused the last ice age and what could cause the next.

Hoax, maybe. Certainly makes you question what the US government's real plans are...

In the previous thread I was laughed off like a heretic for stating that weather is not climate, meaning that individual days, weeks, or months of weather is not indicative of climate. However, the sum total average of several years' weather is climate.
My argument in the past was that one cold week in winter is not indicative of a reversal of global warning, just as one warm week in summer is not proof positive of climate change.
My argument now is that following the logic of all the naysayers from before, those same people should now be posting about a single hot week's weather pattern being proof positive of global warming.
Links to some of the previous threads, I notice some repeat names here:

we pave the earth... and these guys still deny we have any affect on it... give it up man...
these guys will go to their graves denying global warming was a myth. Just like the guys who went to their graves thinking the earth was flat...
Good, then we both agree. But let's not be misleading by saying that my referenced post in that thread is somehow proof of me engaging in the same thought. If you review my other posts in that thread, you'll see that I fully acknowledged a trend in increasing temperatures and followed with my understanding of the research in question, dissenting from the very logic that originated in the thread.
Then we are in agreement
Here's an article posted today that's pertinent to the discussion. Hey look, it's from Auburn!
Answer to speedy tree growth lies in air pollution, Auburn University study shows | Fox News
Now that's what I call good science.Quote:
AUBURN, AL – As the scientific community worries about greenhouse gas emissions contributing to global warming, a new Auburn University study suggests the Southeastern U.S. absorbs more carbon than it produces. And, at least in the short term, air pollution may actually be helping to speed the growth of young, carbon-absorbing forests in the region.
“Our study actually showed that Southeast carbon uptake is much faster than other regions,” said Hanqin Tian, a professor at Auburn’s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, and lead author of the study published in the journal Ecosystems. “This area has trees that are very young and the growth is very fast. So, they uptake more carbon from the atmosphere.”
While earlier studies have examined the effect of individual factors on carbon storage and climate change, Tian developed a computer model that takes into account multiple natural and manmade variables – such as land use, climate and pollution – over the past century.
The model suggests that moderate amounts of air pollution, in the form of carbon and nitrogen, had a fertilization effect on young forests. Many of these new trees appeared on abandoned agricultural land during the mid-20th century.
“In the short term, it could increase the carbon uptake,” Tian said. “But that’s not guaranteed for long.”
The Auburn study suggests the Southeast is approaching a “tipping point.” The region’s urban areas are growing. And, despite the temporary fertilization effects of atmospheric carbon and nitrogen, Tian said increasing levels of other pollutants, such as ground level ozone, threaten to do more harm than good to the environment in the long-term.
“The take-home message is we really need to do urban/land use planning and also air pollution control to help the Southern U.S. forests to become maybe a sustainable carbon sink,” Tian said.
Continental U.S. breaks heat record in first half of 2012 - Chicago Tribune
"The last 12 months also have been the warmest since modern record-keeping began in 1895, narrowly beating the previous 12-month period that ended in May 2012."
So does this represent evidence at all? Aren't their models that predict global warming/climate change will lead to significant cooling in Europe? Am I way off base? ha.. Does it jive with the models for the Continental US to heat up?
