We are debating whether to go or not tonight, possibly into tomorrow night. A few reasons why we wouldn't go (not the distance) but a few reasons why we need to go. So, lets hear it. If we did go, might just leave the 97 at home and bring the 99.

Just go, no discussion needed.
You can convoy with me. :)
I've been working on them Alan ;)
See this is just arrogant and shoving it down peoples throats. Why don't you stop and let Alan and Lori handle it instead of bombing peoples threads and chatbox

Have you ever not had a good time at NG? If you're not doing any events it's a pretty cheap way of seeing a lot of people I'm sure you haven't seen in a long time since you missed BRG last year. And you'll get to finally meet a few new people ;)
It is 150% worth it. BRG and NG are our two favorite get-aways. We get so bummed when gathering-season is over, because it means one whole year until we get to do it again. :p
If you can make it, I'd suggest going. It only happens once a year, and makes for a perfect vacation. :p
I really, really, really want to go, but I just can't afford it. I just don't have the money. If you have the spare cash, I would suggest going.
B-Man, true. That is one of the big things is meeting a lot of ppl. and getting back into the mix as far as 3S's go. I haven't has a 3000 in almost 4 yrs. Also, in the debate is, we just bought a 99 VR4 and a 97 VR4 so money is a little tight. Not to mention we will have to pay someone to watch the 4 dogs.
Paul, we wouldn't get there till Thursday afternoon and have to leave Sunday morning, so we can't caravan with ya.
Sean and Brian the weekender is only $80 and you get:
*spectator entry to the drags
*entry to the car show
*T-shirt
*banquet for that.
The rooms are very reasonable and maybe you can share a room as most have two beds. (this goes for you too Brian)
Its a great event and a chance to meet a lot of people you've only talked to online. Everyone that has gone has had a great time. Shawn you need to get you ass on a plan and hop out for the weekend I'll pick you up from the airport.
If I can manage to come up with some extra money I will seriously consider a weekender. My main issue is fuel is going to run me around $200 alone. I know that is nothing compared to what other people are spending, but money is super tight right now. I might as well figure on needing $500 for the weekend.
OT is all but gone at this point at work and that is how I have been surviving lately. We will see.
The biggest expense is just getting there. If I lived anywhere on the east coast/midwest, I'd be there in a heartbeat.
Sean & Linda, you're lucky to live so close. Anyone within a < 600mi radius of Indy would be a fool not to go. :p
I'm saving up for NG13, this better not be the last one!
I wish I could go damn Army sending me to Germany and last year making me go to a stupid career advancing school during NG time. I wish my oldman would drive the 96 R/T down but thats not going to happen he can't get out of it lol his stomach is to big HAAHA. I would drop everything and go if I had the chance with out a second thought.
What kind of food is being served at the banquet? :p
it really is a good time, and you being in TN, its not really THAT far away
2250 miles for me, one way....
I suggest everyone go if they are within 500 miles, crazy not to.
If you don't go, you'll miss epic autoX track.
:suspect:
906 miles for me and I wouldn't miss for anything. Even my wife is excited to go and she'll be 7 months pregnant for it. We had so much fun last year and this year I'm running my car in all the events.
Gas costs and the overall high cost of the events is what kept me away this year so I can understand. I really wanted to go but it cost me over $2000 last year and that blew a lot of my budget away for the Spyder. Set me back many months on the AWD conversion and building the engine and all the other stuff that needed done. Prob won't be able to go again for a while until the cost of bringing your family along for the events goes down... a lot.
Since your closer it may not be so bad and it can still just weekend pass, that's much cheaper. Take a look around the garage... May find some parts you can sell at the meet to help pay for gas.
While I understand where you are coming from (I've "charged" NG entry because I don't have the money nearly every time I attended), I do have a point to make about "expensive events".
Comparatively speaking, NG has some of the cheapest track time around. autoX is $40, which is only $5 more than what I pay for my local club autoX, and even with local SCCA events for non-members. Roadcourse is a whole 'nother ball game, $140 for 4+ 20 minute sessions a day is 1/3 to 2x cheaper than the usual HPDE's I attend. I've spent $250 a single day for 4 sessions before, and only got half the track time that NG offers. Breaking it down, that's like $2 a minute or less. Phone sex probably costs more and isn't as fun, lol. $45 for drag is a little more than double what the local 1/4 track charges, but I'm lucky to get 2 or 3 runs in at TnT days, so if I get 4 runs in at NG the price is a wash, if I get 6 runs in hotlapping, woohoo that's only $7.50 a run.
Granted I see the world in a different light to most......I eat top ramen and forgo any savings or retirement to have enough money to feed my addiction.
Yes but when you try do do every event plus bring along family, the spectator fee drives outta reach for me. I cannot justify $60 per person for my whole family. Crazy to pay $60 just to watch?!? I wish it was in Memphis. I'd consider going and just bring my son again.
I don't want to get off track from the ops question though. If your close, and can come up with the $$ then go. At least it will keep the NG going long enough they the committee will move it back to Memphis or consider a more central spot.
Having gone to the majority of the NG's I can't really see this debate. If you can't afford it it's understandable (why I missed the 2 NG's I did) but if you can swing it there really shouldn't be a need for debate.
I guess we will post to this thread later our final choice. Guess I could post-pone ordering a few things for the vr4 that I wanted. Hummm.
You always say hummmmmm. Instead of hmmmmm
if i was free from commitments on my time, i'd be there--even if it meant a 5-day road trip each way.
The poll has spoken. What's there left to hummmm about? :)
We will be there Thursday - Sunday. Probably just brining the 99. Not sure yet. See y'all soon.
yay!!! You're going to have soooooo much fun!!
I would say if you can afford it without putting a financial strain on yourself, do it.
Haven't seen you around in awhile.
Just got done working 17 12hr days in a row to have the extra to comfortably be able to go this year!
Yeah, for some reason when I put the cars to sleep last year for the winter I kind of went missing on all the car forums I talk on. I'm still not quite sure why.
