Have an iPod that I haven't used in a while since my Galaxy replaced it.
fight!
I'm just curious. I know the brand gets alot of hate here and on 3si and BAWC and, well, everywhere, but it's popular all over the world.
Scotty
Not a big fan of Apple. I just picked up my iPod Touch before I had my smartphone because it was the closest thing to a smart phone without actually having to pay for service. I could watch videos, get online, send email, etc from it. Like I said, I really don't have much use for it any more.
I don't care for Apple and I don't own or use any of their products. I would consider a iPhone 3G at the price they are right now if I need to get another phone though.
I use an Ipod touch to avoid the data fees the cell companies are charging these days.
Depending on what you're talking about when you say that Apple is popular, I would have to beg to differ. In the PC realm, they are just under 5% world market share. To me, I would file that as "irrelevant in the industry." They make overpriced PC's and have rode their mp3 players (I include the iPhone and iPad in this since the iOS was originally meant for the iPod) to make any real headway anywhere.
The company's only real skill is their ability to make people feel that they MUST HAVE this new product that no one has needed before. Once competition begins in that market segment, Apple starts to lose their ass and they move on to something new. To top it off, most every Apple fan I know is an absolute idiot, so that helps add to the distaste for the products they sell.
Never had anything apple makes. I doubt I ever will. Just I have no interest in their products.
I'm no Apple fan, in fact I feel their computers are toys compared to real computers. That said, I own 2 ipods. I think they're still the best music storage device around. I don't think anyone makes an MP3 player that can hold as many songs as the best ipods do. Most of the people who don't like ipods, don't like them because of the itunes store and what their downloads cost compared to other sites. But 95% of the stuff on my ipod is from my own CD collection, so that's never been an issue for me. My Stealth has a direct connect ipod cable and the digital touch screen integrates all the ipod controls and album art. But I'll never own a mac or an iphone or any of their other crap.
I just find this hard to fathom from you guys. I checked the wiki page for Apple as well as some other sites which had their good v bad v ugly products. The part that keeps coming up is the fact that their products are alot more expensive. Yet everytime Apple release a new product, guess what happens? WORLD WIDE people camp outside the shops front doors looking to be the first to buy the new accessory. Does that make it a good product, no, but does it means it's popular, absolutely! Take the iPhone for example. I refused to buy it simply because alot of people at work have one. I bought the Nokia N8 and thought it competed well against the iPhone in almost all areas, and beat it in some. (12mp camera was the main reason I got it) Yet for a simple function as the screen spinning to whatever way your holding it, the Apple shits on the Nokia. Also, it's a bit laggy when opening different screens. Now this is a pretty lame ass plus for the Apple, but it's these little things I appreciate.
We also have an iMac which I used to edit all my videos on. It doesn't really crash and v's a pc, it's worlds in front for what I need imo.
Scotty
I hate all apple products, except their networking products. For consumers, nobody else can touch the airport extreme or express. They are pretty much the best at extending wireless networks. Also the way they function as an airtunes node, is awesome. That said, i hate itunes, but for people who dont, its amazing.
"hey mr client, i see that you have 40 gigs of music on your pc, and you have an iphone/ipod touch, what would you say if i told you for $100 you can stream music from your computer to your surround system, and control everything from your iphone" clients eat that shit up...
Always had shit phones the last 8~ years, heard about this new iphone craze a few years back, thought meh, used em a few times...thought they were pretty sweet, used them more and more, had to have one.
have an iphone4, fucking sensational phone. Just does everything, love every bit of it. however I'm not a fanboy! Couldn't care less about anything else they make, iphone however does it all + some.
None and thankfully so.
Phone: HTC Desire
Laptop: Acer
MP3 Player: Sanza Fuze
I will pick another brand over apple anyday. I came quite close to picking up the newest Iphone but went with HTC and Im happy I did. Love android.
:suspect:
It's a trap.
I have like 5 [at least] windows based PCs/Laptops and one Apple G4 desktop. Haven't turned it on in 2 years hahaha. I used iMacs at Uni for video editing and 3d rendering/design and I think that's all they are good for. Gaming is shit.... parts cost 4 times what a Toshiba/HP laptop would cost..... and the components are all the same. I tried to sell a customer a Toshiba laptop today but she had her heart set on an Apple and she went and bought one...... $500 more than the Toshiba with basically the same specs. So frustrating.
Scotty next time you need a new computer/laptop give me a call and i'll hook you up with a real PC not some crappy over priced Crapple :p
See, I don't consider lining up for a new phone making the company popular. That's what I call fanboi's that need to get a life. It's a fucking phone. You make calls with it. The rest of the world realizes that you're not any cooler because you waited for the new iProduct. As I said - they have a tiny part of the market. Their skill is in making new shit that their fanbois will line up for and buy at exorbitant prices. That's all.
HAHA - Wev'e had our iMac for 3 months. We dont run anti-virus software, dont get pop-ups and it doesn't crash on me. ALL the PC's I've ever used pale in comparison to this machine. I love it and I promise I'm no fanbois.
Dude - I'm not saying these idiots are right in lining up. But you dont see that sort of reaction happening with pc's do you. Why? I can't be sure but I'm guessing they make more products? Anyways, I think you just hate the product so getting a fair assessment from you wont happen really. Take our car platform. It's a horrid one to choose, yet you would stand up for it if some ricer were to bash it. :)
Scotty
you better run some anti virus on that mac... or you will be sorry :)
Macs are fine if you want to pay 5 times what you should to surf the web and make a fashion statement...
Most macs are just that, web surfers... read some email. Oh noes edit a movie!
Macs are for dumb computer users who only do simple tasks. Only the real software and games are written for PCS...
Although with more and more "web based" apps coming online, Apples can do a little more now.
Goood results :D
I have no Apple products. I had one of the original iPods when they first came out...$300 for a 5gb :Disdain:.
I don't hate Apple, though, that's not the reason I don't have any of their products...it's because I see no point in nearly all of their products. Just more blind consumerism for people to waste their money on having the cool new tech toy...until the next one comes out in 6 months.
None at all. Matter of fact I don't even have any smart/droid phones either.
-Chris
I have always been staunchly against Apple products. Not because I "hate" Apple, but because I don't like how they force you to use their proprietary software and other nonsense to use their products. I also don't think the amount they charge for their products is even remotely justified in most cases. When the ipod came out, I didn't buy one. I didn't like that the songs had to be in their format, and had to go through Itunes. I got a Sandisk Sansa... at the time, it did more than the ipod could, it could do video, and it was 4 meg, and about half the cost of the Ipod. Never had an apple comp either, PC works just fine for me, with a lot more support and applications designed for it.
My last two phones I had were BB's from RIMM. However... they no longer make the best phone. I do have an iPhone now, and I will admit it's a great phone and very easy to use. When I first got it, I had serious doubts that it could beat my BB, but it did. So on the iPhone, I'll give credit where credit is due, it's an exceptional phone. EDIT: Forgot to mention that I had to install a couple special programs on my computer so I could put songs and pictures on my phone without having to use iTunes. That was annoying, but it was a one time thing, and I can use the phone and still circumvent Apple's software.
I fix macs for a living and I only own a macbook because I am provided one. I also have 4 iPods because these shits keep breaking.
Fuck Apple :P
I used to like apple computers in the Mac OS 8 days, but since the OSX stuff it's started to become a lot more pc-like and virus-friendly. I find it impossible to believe that hackers wouldn't specifically target apple computers these days. You have a product marketed to people on the basis that it can be operated by a mentally challenged chimp AND they are duped into believing that they "can't get viruses." It's laughable. Today's apple products are decent products, but they are made for and marketed to sheep and I doubt I will ever buy another. The company itself has also drastically changed in the last several years. Apple's true colors showed once they emerged from the underdog role.
I did just get my 10 year old titanium powerbook up and running again after discovering a dead pram battery was preventing it from turning on. It works nicely for most things and holds a wireless signal much better than my $200 acer netbook. Of course it was $3500 or so when I bought it, so it better be a higher quality piece. I do like that computer though- except the case gets really, really hot when it is plugged into the wall.
Simple answers: I build my own pc's. I don't need to line up somewhere as I'll go on Tigerdirect, Newegg, Directron, or go down to the local shop and pick up my parts, and make my computer be specifically what I want it to be. No need to wait for an aging hippy to release a new (old) computer for me to get something better.
As for bias - of course I'll be biased! When I buy electronics I want the best bang for the buck I can get at the time of purchase. Apple may have many things, but best value for mid to high end products has never been one of them, thus I'm not their customer. Just as you are biased towards their products because you feel there is some sort of value for your dollar there.
As for our cars - I'll tell anyone straight up they are pieces of shit most the time. I'll then ask them what their car runs in the 1/4 and see who's faster. ;)
None, F Apple
I buy PC's simply because of the applications I use that apple does not support. Price to me does not matter as much as use does. And I can mod PC's to upgrade rather than buy new as with apple. The rest of the apple gadgets I do not use ever. Wireless phone support in my area is still 2g and will be for several more years yet. It is a chicken and the egg thing. Why buy an Iphone if you can not use most of its features. I never had a walkman no need for an Ipod either. My cell phone is only used for phone calls I do not even use text. I can take pictures but the internet feature is so slow it does not pay to try to upload or send a photo anywhere. And the cost for internet service over the cell is prohibitively expensive anyway. Not worth spending a penny on to wait forever for anything. I do have wifi hotspots around town but my notebook works fine on those already no need to change plus my notebook is compatible with my network of pc's at home. Apple just does not make anything I must have or need or want to have.
I am already heavily invested in PC programs anyway. Many which have no apple version.
Which remindes me, How many of you guys have a computer junk yard in your home of old parts that have been upgraded? I have enough old parts that I put together 6 old computers with old operating systems. I have a 386sx running win 3.1 still and a 486dx and a first gen pentium and on and on. Win 95 and win 98 running on a few oldies. Those old machines have small hard drives so they can not hold a larger operating system.
I am proud to say i don't own anything from Apple.
I didn't have space to keep my old junk, so most of it was sold off pretty cheap. At the moment the only extra parts I have are a couple 80GB'ish HDD's, some spare vid cards, and an old p4 Dell (came as an accessory with my wife - was replaced with a home built system real fast). Since I'm moving soon, I'm looking for a parts recycler as I have a pair of CRT's that I don't want to take with me. I'll start getting more extra parts again this fall as I intend to upgrade to an Ivy Bridge based system. My wife will get the better parts from my system, the kids will get the parts from hers, and then I should have the parts to make a HTPC.
Lot of haters out there .. a shame y'all are burdened with all those negative emotions
Had an iPhone, got tired of ATT, tho I loved the phone.
Switched to Verizon .. Droid does just fine
3rd gen iPod hooked up to my Alpine in the GT .. seamless operation, best audio I've ever enjoyed in a car.
Airport Express - Tunes from the iMac upstairs to the HT downstairs
iMac - Only regret is it's not a 24". It's over 3 years old.
(2) 15" Macbook Pros - Flawless performance
I was a PC for too long a period of time.
Anchored because of software.
Started with a 486DX2 a long time ago.
Dont miss Windows at all.
I have an
iPhone 4 32g
iPad 2 3G 64g
iPod touch 4th gen. 8g (for the wife)
I like some apple products but not all. My iPad was a gift from my inlaws and I stopped using my desktop. It's awesome for lounging around with and browsing the forums. I'm NOT a fan of apple laptops or desktops I prefer to build my computers and prefer windows. No bias here I just like what I like.
Bingo!
I bought one pre-built. It was a Packard Bell that my parents bought me when I was in high school. Every computer since then has been one that I've built.
Oh, and.....

None.
I build my own computers, used to have a zune HD but sold it for an Archos mp3 player (waiting on them to come out with a smaller capacitive touchscreen model), and have an old piece of shit phone. If I were to get a smart phone it wouldn't be Apple anyway, unless I wanted to be behind the curve and pay twice the price.
Also, Apple computers are built on Foxconn motherboards. "High Quality" shit right there :rolleyes3:
I have 3 iPhone (1 old 3G 1 3Gs and the iPhone 4 and a MacBook pro
