At one point I was in the process of installing a B&M hammer in my 92 sl. Had it mounted flush in the console, adn saw no reason I couldn't make the linkage cable work (the OD would require a seperate button), but then decided to do a manual trans swap instead. I still have the shifter in a closet somewhere, maybe one day I'll use it on something.
Wish I could find pics from when it was in the console, because it looked very cool.
You won't find a tougher shifter than the Hammer. Once mounted, it was rock solid.
The top of the shifter was just over 4 inches from the console, considerably shorter than the stock one.
This was my 1st idea of the console top, but on actually going to mount it, I found I could bring the shifter to where the bottom of the shift boot came flush with the existing console. Have pics somewhere, just can't find the rest.
