Today's Fiasco

I go to replace my rear brake rotor and pads today. I get the wheel and caliper off lickity split, no problem. I then continue to beat the rotor mercilessly with no sign of it moving an inch.

Finally, I break the seal!

Time to pull this fucker off and put on my new Stop Techs.

*tries grabbing brake and pulling and it won't come off...more pounding ensues*

It won't come off still!

Why is this not coming off?! I know, I'll call Jeremy and see if he has any pro tips as I've never ran into this problem before.

*calls Jeremy* Jeremy has no idea either? WTF?!?!

I then get a hammer and a hatchet and profusely beat the rotor until it falls off and I come down to my knees in tears...only to notice one thing....

THE EBRAKE IS ON....

 I was dual wielding with the hammer and hatchet. (I used the rear/blunt side of the hatchet obviously :p) I didn't have any intent on reusing that rotor.

I knew what the issue was before I got halfway thru the story. You shoulda called me.

Nice one...I've found though that sometimes using bolts in the extra holes on the rotor to get it off seems to work better than just hitting it regardless of the e-brake.

yeah these are designed to push the rotor off.

I know, why people insist on using hammers instead I'll never understand...

You shall most definitely receive a call if another instance like this takes place. I was ready to throw that hammer through every window in my vehicle.

hahaha i was thinking to myself while reading it.....e brake is still on! nvm mate its done now, get the new ones on :)

lol yea the rears dont have those holes do they?? i know the fronts do beating onthem with a hammer if your going to reuse them is a better idead , i have ran into cracking the rotors using the bolts . if your not reusing them then sure. im a proffesional mechanic and i still beat rotors off .

Yes the rears have press holes.

Use them evenly and they won't crack.

Ever seen some one wrap a chain around one and then attach it to a go cart?? Makes for a very interesting evening.

lmao , i had one on an avenger that was so rusted on that a pry bar and alot of beating and a busted lip finally got it off

Busted lip?

LOL, I didn't know you wrote this up. The bolt holes was the only suggestion I had as well. I never considered the e-brake was on!! The awkward pause was epic though, followed by "uhh, well I gotta go man, later". HAHAHAHAHA!!
