The loophole is you dont make it a "public sale"
Yeah from what I understand AEM wants people to charge a certain price. Kind of crappy IMO.
You can do what you want, just make sure they dont find out :)
Yea i was just thinking of letting people know if they want it at a great price PM me. or advertise that we will pay you 200.00 to ship it to you lol
Kinda of different but the same. My daughter has played competitive softball since she was 8. The bat manufacturers set the minimum advertised retail price on the bats so that no matter where you go you pay the same. The way the local shops get around this is not to advertise a price. At the point of sale you receive the bat for 20% over cost. The owner can't get in trouble for advertising less than the min set point by the contract with the manufacturer, but is able to cut you a deal. A lot of the net sales say place in basket for actual price and only put $$$ for the price on the webpage. There are little loopholes you can find. Let people know that you have great prices on AEM and when they checkout the actual price charged shows.. that may get you around it. Wish you the best of luck :)
stay under the radar
Be careful though, because if AEM suspects you are (or if they just wanted to just cause they can) underminding their policies, they can request your recent invoices to see what prices you are selling their products for.
gift certificate for future purchase? ;)
(although it's a little too early for me to call on needing one of these or not)
gotta love MFG price fixing. i hope that kid gets his flashable ECU working this spring....
Please PM me a price for an AEM2, I have a 15% off coupon for engine electronics and a free shipping certificate :D
The reason they do it is not so we have to pay more, its to make it a fair market, if one company gets a 40% discount and another only gets 20% then that second company could never match the first companies sale price. If all companies have to charge full price then its a more fair market for all vendors.
Like has been mentioned though this is mainly to cover advertised pricing. PMs and email work for "sales" though, just dontt make mention of the pricing anywhere on a public forum and they wont pay much attention.
Also I would start by editing your first psot, or deleting this thread all together.
AEM is very picky. There are several companies that operate that way. Like AEM explained to me - They usually don't look for people going under MAP, its your competion that turns you in to them.
I agree, this thread should go bye bye.
I agree...delete this thread because any vendor can request AEM to investigate the prices you're selling their products for.
The price is set so that "fly by night" shops don't sell it at pennies over their cost and then go out of business because they didn't make enough money to keep their doors open, while the legit "brick and mortar" shops lose out on sales and then don't make enough money to keep their doors open. Then AEM has no one to help sell their products and they go out of business. Sell shit for nothing helps nobody. The buyer no longer has a shop that can provide customer service or a manufacturer to uphold a warranty and now all the tuning shops are out of business and you are stuck with a tin can in your driveway.
This is my favorite link for how many shops feel when selling the ems. RRE's Eclipse AEM EMS Info
I've seen many shops come and go in the last 12 years. They all did the same thing. Whore parts out for nothing and then close up because they can't make anything. Trust me, this ems is the last thing you want to sell at $100 profit. I've sat on the phone with people for hours to help them with their ems problems and I didn't even sell it to them. Now I'm not saying to not be fair with customers, but be fair with other vendors. There are plenty of customers out there for everyone, so make some damn money for the service you provide Lol.
I hear you. I have been stuck on the phone a few times on products that didnt come from us. I do not know much about the EMS other then how to install it. As for being fare to other shops I hear you on that to. Which is why we stopped our R&D on oil coolers. So if we get any request we will shoot them over to you (shhhh! buttering up so i can get a deal on a rear diffuser)
