I was sitting in my 7th grade classroom watching the towers fall :( What were you doing?
I was on my way back from dropping clothes off at the dry cleaners. Went home and woke up my brother by telling him that the start of World War 3 was on TV.
In college and my room mate woke me up to say, "hey you might want to come watch the news" I said, "why dude"...he said, "just fucking do it." Now I am a fireman...strange.

Just closed on my first house (still there)... wife woke me up after a night of partying, she was crying. Asking if I am going back in the Military because of what just happened.... Went downstairs and I watched tv for about 3-4 hours before reacting.
Amazing I can recall what I was thinking while watching from 9 years ago.
I was at work.... just as I am today. The whole culture around here has changed as a result of that day. More security, more cameras, more places that you have to badge into.
I think I was really too young to realize what was really happening. That day seemed really weird after first period. I went through the one big "intersection" at school and the one kid was talking about how "They bombed the Pentagon!" and nobody believed him, but as soon as I walked into my history class room it was on the news. I think everyone was completely stunned and had no idea what to do.
I was out looking for a job and didn't have a radio on so I walked into a lobby to try and drop off a resume and saw this on there TV.
I was getting ready for work. saw the news, still went to work. went to church afterwards and prayed.
I was in health class, Mr. Bieber. He took us into the teachers' lounge and told us we need to watch as this would be an important part of history. One of the greatest teachers I ever had. (8th grader)
I was walking in the door of the club I bar tended at. Saw every TV tuned to a different news channel and every employee watching!
I was just waking up. I worked an afternoon shift and because of the drive didn't get home til after 1am. I remember getting out of bed and going into the bathroom to take a piss. Then I walked into the living room where my dad was wathing TV and just said under a crackling voice "They're flying planes into our buildings"
I was so confused at first because I had just woken up. Then everything started hitting my brain. I didn't move from the TV for hours. I almost forgot to get showered before I had to leave for work. I listened to the radio the whole way to work talking about it. When I got there they had dug a TV out of a back room and had it on the coverage and all I did was watch the coverage my whole time at work in between processing trucks out of the quarry. It was definitely a strange day.
Sitting in 8th grade English class when It all started. They turned on the news at first then the school decided we should not be aloud to see what was happening. My teacher left ours on and told us "This is a day where will never forget exactly where we were and what we were doing."
10th grade Chemistry. I was turning on my burner and then the gas went off and the teacher told us. Most of the other grades were held in class. I said screw this and picked up my baby brother from middle school and went home.
It was my day off from work. I lived about 8 miles away from Detroit Metro Airport, and regular flights would rattle our windows when they came in low. When I woke up, there was no noise. I walked out into the living room and my father' s girlfriend was dumbstruck. I looked to the TV to watch the second tower fall. I watched until the lunch appt I had. While waiting for my friend to get out of school, a local guy everyone knew rode up on his bike. He was known around the city as the kind old man with the old 50's Schwinn bike that he rode everywhere. He came up to my window and asked to listen to the radio. I had Howard Stern on, so I turned it up so he could here. He sat there and cried while holding onto my car. A lot of that day has begun to get fuzzy, but the old man crying and talking to me about what happened - that will never leave me.
I was in fifth grade, likely picking my nose and hitting on the girl next to me. We had little tv's in the room but could barely tell what was going on.
I remember it was my freshmen year of High School. had just gotten into Social Studies, hadn't even sat down yet when the teacher came in with a distraught look on his face and said "something terrible has happened." At first I thought he was joking, but then he told us the world trade center towers had been hit. We went in the other room and turned on the news, and watched as the 2nd plane hit the towers. This event for our generation is like pearl harbor for your parents or grandparents. It's something you will most likely never forget that day.
I was in 8th grade, and completely clueless. I walked into class, and I remember this kid, Donovan Staggs, whom I have not seen since that grade, told me the WTC got hit by planes. I had no clue what the WTC was. I just responded with a clueless, "Cool." I'll never forget that I said "Cool." and I always remember that when I am in a situation where I should hold my tongue. God I felt like an ass.
7th grade homeroom class. They already had the TV on and I remember specifically watching a replay of the airplane hitting the tower, and a few other misc portions of video. Had blink 182 playing on my cd player the whole time, as the volume was down on the tv and no one in the class really understood the extent of what was happening.
Did not really hit me until I got home that day and listened the presidents speech...
I was in my first period Social Studies class - 8th grade. The rest of the day was completely awkward, but we were mostly naive and unaware.
i was really late to go to school and hear people talk about a terrorist attach... so i went home to watch the news. i was shocked!
i was sitting in physics class my senior year of high school. someone came into our room and said we had to turn on the tv just before the 2nd plane went into the south tower. we kept going to classes but we didn't really do anything... just kept watching as things unfolded throughout the day.
I was sitting in spanish class and when i walked in the door of my house, with my GF Melissa, tower 2 had fallen, we both stared at the TV for hours that day.
I still get angry about it now knowing how poor our long term response has been.

i was sat in a 30 ton excavator pulling old foundations out of the ground when this happened. i remember it like it was yesterday.
it was a terrible thing we shal never forget.
All I remember is coming home to my mom sitting on the front steps, waiting for me to let me know, as if someone in our family had died.
Walking into 2nd period history class as Tower II was struck. I'll never forget how eerie that day was.
Had a big party and pig roast on Saturday, it was sort of a little "f--- you" to the terrorists - yes WE eat pork, watch college FB, and still carry out our lives despite your attempts to stop it. Didn't have the party because of 9/11, just worked out that way.
Was a freshman in college in NY state. Walked into class, our professor told us and ended class immediately. Went back and woke my roommate, who was from NYC and we watched the second plane hit and both towers fall. I was one of the few lucky people in my dorm who didn't have family/friends at GZ, but it was still surreal to watch, and is a day that I'm sure will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I had just got to school from the DMV where i had passed my drivers test. I remember ever classroom being so quite and every TV was one.
I was on the bus to 9th grade when the radio reported the first plane hitting the towers. I remember they were kind of making fun of it a little bit because the report they got was that it was a small Cessna or something. Then the second plane hit about the time I got to school. In most of my classes that day we were just watching the news. Cept for Spanish where they made us take a test !!!!!
Same here. I was in 7th grade. I was in class when the teacher turned on the tv and we all watched in disbelief. Then they sent us all home and my friend came over my house since I lived right by the school.
The only thing I think now when I look back is that I still don't know how its physically possible for a building on fire to free fall like a controlled demolition, as the tower did.
I was in spanish class too, thats weird to hear how many were in spanish class. lol
Heat weakens steel faster and more effectively than anything else. Weakened girders and supports allowing floors to collapse onto the floor below puts greater stress on the supports below. As this happens repeatedly, the floors continue to collapse on one another until the whole thing comes down.
I was doing the exact same thing.
And the way the towers were built is what really allowed them to collapse in the way that they did. Trade off of having massive open floor space surrounding a central core along with the outer skin as primary support. Both held to one another by relatively light weight steel that once weakened by fire(on top of MASSIVE trauma from a fucking 757 going flat out)compromising one wall(primary support structure remember) and damaging the central core enough to where it cut off the stairs entirely at the floors of impact. But those light weight girders that hold inner support + outer support together were never intended to sustain the loads that were put upon them add in fire protection that was compromised by a jumbo fucking jet flying into the building at over 500mph(top speed is 609mph, so who knows) weighing in around 50 fucking tons(5 tons less than MTOW) is an astronomical amount of energy and it blew off the fire coating and then the steel got hot...and failed.
One failure led to the next failure and it was just a domino effect. If you think of the energy involved, its an engineering marvel they stood as long as they did considering when they were designed and what was known at the time when accounting for something like this.

Here's a good article that goes further in depth as to what Jason and the rest of use are trying to convey

I wonder if the dumbass Rosie O'Donnell will ever live down saying "This is the first time in history fire has ever melted steel"
I slept with the TV on that night and woke up the next to get ready to go to school. As soon as I looked at the TV to focus my eyes on what was going on, I saw the second plane fly into the tower. That was a trip...
I was in my office, going over the previous days production reports, listening to a syndicated radio show broadcast out of Charlotte when they broke away to the national news network, CBS I believe.
Radio in the shop also went straight over to national news shortly after the first tower was hit.
Usual banter among the guys in the shop disappeared.
Fiance' (now wife) & I met at lunch at our apartment and watched TV news in disbelief.
Over and over, from different perspectives, they collapsed.
It was surreal .. still seems to be.
Since then, a nephew and son-in-law have both been to the middle east.
Nephew is on his 2nd tour in Baghdad, very much ready to come back stateside.
And I wonder, what did they, what have we really managed to accomplish, how much have we accomplished in our "war on terror"?
Somewhere I still have the ticket stub from the Tool concert I was supposed to see that night. Needless to say, it was canceled. We received a makeup date, but no new tickets were released. Only time I've looked down on Maynard is when he went on about the attack and declared it was our gov't that did it.
I was in the customer Lounge at the Mitsu dealer i used to work at, man, we all just stared at the TV going WTF over and over!
absolutely NO cars came in for the next 3 days! I had to pull all my vacation pay to pay the bills that month, totally un-Fing believable!
shit happened for sure, i just wish the Gov. would release all the videos of the Pentagon crash. there were alot of gas stations a other security cams that were confiscated.
that the only one i wonder about.
