Sooooo, Are we going to see a for sale thread on the Clone ECU or the Arc 2? ;)
Currently trying out an Evo MAF to see if I max out its flow. Probably going to end up selling the ARC 2. Maybe I'll bring it to the NG with a 25 spline mark Williams 5 speed output shaft and some other goodies for quick liquidation.
ill take the clone u can keep the arc ;)
Set the ARC to stock injector settings. Double the MAF size value. Fine tune using the MAF comp (VE) tables.
Well . . . Here is how it turned out. I went with a stock Evo MAF and removed the ARC 2. The horsepower came in just under what the piggy-back tune had but with lots more torque.Attachment 6878
Here is the dyno results from last year at the STL NG. ARC 2 and stock '93 ECU.
Dat torque curve!
The only reason we stopped making power is the size of the Evo MAF. You can see it in the HP curve, the line for the 83mm ford MAF keeps climbing to the rev limit. The Evo MAF shows it's restriction by limiting the boost at higher rpms.
The big question now is deciding to go with 2 Evo MAF's or a z06 MAF and translator.
I've been thinking about using 2 MAF's too. I know that the old skylines use 2 MAF's in their stock configuration.
Are they wired parallel then and one to each intake pipe?
I'm not sure if you can do that. Greg is working on reading only one and having a dummy on the other turbo to keep the restriction the same and just use the value at 50% I think.
Reading only one intake doesn't work. Turns out the turbos are very unbalanced when it comes to drawing air and trade off the bias in a random fashion. :(
Z06 MAF is the next step then. Thank you Greg for the time you spend that saves me from wasting tons of time and effort figuring things like that out on my own!!
Using MAFt or MAFtPro?
Scott, I really appreciate you testing this. I'm not 100% convinced this is the end of the evo maf. Mellon has pushed up to 790 wheel on one and there are loads of people over 600. I can't think of why an evo could make more power on the same maf than us.
Stupid question, but what size air filter are you running? I'm running one so large you have to squeeze it in to clear the fender apron.
Also, I didn't lay your graphs on the screen at the same time, but it appears just eye balling it the evo maf setup actually spools faster.
Is the arc 83mm maf the internal diameter or external? The external OD of the evo maf is about 3.25", which is 82.55 mm. The internals are obviously more restriction though.
can you run blow thru and just ditch the maf?
blow thru- still has a maf. The maf is relocated between the turbo and the throttle body under positive pressure during boost.
Speed density- has no maf at all and uses an intake air temp sensor (IAT) and a manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP) combined to calculate air. Speed density is not supported by chrome and usually used with an AEM EMS.
Shame our cars weren't set up for twin maf out of the factory.
If someone could make a box to take two Karman Hz readings in and output one reading it would open up a lot of options.
Blow through is great but it takes some time to properly tune out some of the "quirks".
