Discover has the best credit card!

Every once in a while I would get an email/phone from Discover asking if certain charges were legit and they always were. Well today they weren't and Discover just ran through my statement, I told them what was legit and they took off everything else. They are over nighting a new card. I talked to someone who spoke english and was in the US. I didn't have to go through touch tone menu systems. I didn't wait to speak with someone. It is amazing, honestly.

Customer service is my #1 priority and I will always have a Discover card because of their service. I feel like a lot of business could use them as role models. Keurig, Discover, and Lifeproof all have somewhat more expensive/premium products but they are worth the price because they take care of you. Lifeproof sent me multiple free cases, Keurig sent me a new coffee maker free of charge because an LED burnt out, etc. I will definitely buy products in the future from all of these companies because of how they treated me.

So if you need a card, go Discover! They may not have the lowest APR or the highest cash back, but it is worth it.

LOL, Discover...story time

My 1st card was a Discover. In college, and a guy was set up near the dorm saying if you filled out the app he would give you a free t-shirt. So, of course I was like, uh hell yeah free CLEAN shirt! Low and behold they actually sent me a card with a $1,000 limit. No job, no credit, and they gave me that? Mom called me and said, you want me to go ahead and cut this up? Like a dumbass kid, I said no.

Ahh, that card was glorious. I found out you could stick it in an ATM and $20 bills flew out! Then one day the ATM told me to get bent. Reality set in. I had spent $1,000 and had no source of income. Took me a long damn time to pay that card off.

Fast forward a few years, and Discover starts sending me apps. I told them repeatedly that I did not have a good track record with them and to quit wasting their time. They persisted. So, on the last app they have ever sent me, and we're talking a solid 15+ years as of today, I wrote out a story very similar to this one using all the data boxes/lines on the app. :D

Anyway, another great company is Tervis. The folks who make the best double walled plastic cups/glasses on the planet. They will replace any of their products no matter how old, or pretty much whatever happened to them.

Jeremy

call them up and ask them to explain their double cycle billing and how they accru interest.

plus like Amex they suck for businesses by charging them extra to use their card.

Thanks. Had a discover. Got tired of the interest rate changes, pestering me over account inactivity, etc. My Chase has had a $25k limit for 10 years, and I'm not going back.

And before I forget, I've done NUMEROUS chargebacks through chase and haven't ever had issues. Usually the only time I have to talk to them is when I'm making a purchase over $5,000 or something. And I'm someone who buys 90% of non-grocery items online...so I've got a bit of experience.

Not saying Chase is right for you--or everyone--I would just steer clear of MBNA and Discover, in my experience. BoA can suck it.

Well I pay off in full every month so interest isn't relevant to me. I do not own a business so I don't really care about them getting charged more either (no offense).

I thought about Chase but stuck with Discover for the awesome customer service. When everything else in life is a PITA/takes forever, I never have to worry about my Discover stuff. Pick up the phone for 5 mins and your done.

Did not know that about Tervis. I'll have to keep that in mind since I have a few of their cups.

As for me, Discover pissed me off and I will never think about getting a card with them. Long story short. I got a "pre-approved" consolidation loan thing in the mail from them for $25,000. I started looking it over and crunching the numbers and I went ahead and applied for $15,000. Overall, I was going to save around $300 a month from paying off higher interest stuff. App got denied because "I didn't make enough money"

How the hell do I not make enough money when I am going to save $3600 a year?

I get credit apps in the mail all the time since I have some pretty stellar credit.

Visa credit card here. Haven't had it terribly long but No complaints. Never have had to wait for customer service and it's all in the United States. My debit card is a Visa as well and again, never any issues.

I don't get why they pre-approved for $25,000 but then don't want to give you $15,000? Makes sense lol

My southwest visa pays for Christmas every year when I redeem my points as amazon gift cards:D This year we are getting company cards so no more freebies since company will keep the benefits of my business travel:( Was a good run.

I've got 10 cards in all, managed to get 5 down to zero balance and on target to finish another in October.

Having credit cards and paypal are the two worste things that have happened to me, not being able to see the cash in your hand makes it a lot easier to spend.

Going to be debt free by 40 but it's a long hard slog..

Worste thing is if I cancel my zero balance cards it will more than likely go against my credit rating..

if paypal is the worst thing that's happened to you, you lack self control---that's all. those of us with obscure tastes can't source our purchases at a local brick & mortar store.

props to you though if you're going to be mortgage free by age 40 though. that's what i'm shooting for...but i still owe about 45k or so.

I've been working on getting my consumer debt back down..I own my vehicles outright at this point, and I'm down to around 500-600 left for credit card/paypl balance. Unfortunately I still have 40k in medical debt hanging over my head that I can't pay.

Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

I did but not any more ;). 10 years left on the house but to be honest with wife and children I don't count that as a dept more an investment!.

Don't cancel any of your cards. Even if you don't use them keep them open because it helps your credit to debt ratio.

In all I have 4 Visa's (plus Visa check card), a GE Capital card, a car loan with my bank, and a personal loan with my credit union.

Total credit is $29,000. Total debt is $7,150. (Of that I total debt my mom is taking care of $2,159 (which actually should be paid off next month), and my brother is taking care of $560 since it is "their debt."

I have a $3,000 limit on my card I think.. and about $125,000 in debt. How is that for a credit to debt ratio lol! Two more years and it will be more like $250,000:upset::eek5:

I got rid go all my credit card 3 years ago whe I paid them all off. All I have now is 15 years left on a 30 year mortgage and a car payment for 3 more years. My other 3 vehicles are paid off on have zero credit cards with an average credit score of 770. Was 798 over a year ago when I bought my excursion. So you don't have to have open credit to have good credit. But it helps when you have debt.

Credit score is but one part of the equation. Lenders also look at your debt to income(this is huge), amount of available credit, average balances, number of revolving accounts, length of credit history, amount of recently acquired revolving accounts..

I have had two issues with Discover card fraud and each time Discover called me about, was super easy to deal with, and expidited a new card in each case.

The one time I had to call them about an issue was regarding an ebay purchase paid via paypal. I bought some pistons and rods for my brother as a present but the seller never shipped them. I filed the complaint with ebay and paypal and after no response from the seller they refunded a stupid small amount of the total and said that was all they were liable for. So I promptly called Discover, explained the situation, and in less than a day they credit my card the remainder of the charge.

For these reasons I use them for all my online purchases. I have even shouldered the extra fee of using Discover instead of Visa or Mastercard when businesses don't want to pay the difference in fee between the cards.

I have 6 credit cards, 3 with balances that are fairly minimal and the other 3 are 0 balances. I have a car payment which is high, but the car is worth it, and a mortgage at 196k. Soon I will have one paid off completely as the balance is quite small.

I really like going with local credit unions as they usually do not have huge interest rates. My highest interest rate card is 10.99%, lowest is 0%!

I was crunching some numbers today and thought about this post I made 6 months ago. In 6 months my total debt has went from the aforementioned $7,150 to $2134.72. That's a reduction of over $5000 in 6 months. I only have 3 balances left and as of today the highest balance is $990 on my one card I consolidated some debt onto because of 0% interest. Barring any catastrophes my total debt at this time next month will be a little more than $1300.

Well I have a couple cards, all with $0 balance at the end of the month. However, I have a total debt of ~$600k. Good times. Two mortgages (one is a rental now), and two car payments.

Well, another update. I have had $0 in credit debt since the end of November. It feels great not having that burden over my head. Today I got an email from one of the credit card companies telling me they now offer your free FICO score. I logged in to check it out and was floored. Let's just say my credit score is approaching 800. :)

Congrats man!!

I'm going through a refinance now on the new house I bought solely to get away from Wells Fargo as they screwed up so bad on the paperwork and everything else. Interest is going down 1% also which is a plus but I'm happier about getting this last item out from Wells Fargo. I got a copy of our scores as it's part of the refinance and the wife and I are also points away from 800. Seeing as 5-6 years ago I was happy to be at 680 I was shocked to hear it's almost 800 now. We both have worked hard these last 5 years to get out of the credit cards and shit. Granted we have two car payments for new cars and a $250k home, I'm still far from being debt free, but getting out of the cards and other debt has put us to the point that only about 40% of our pay goes towards bills' the rest now goes into savings and fun stuff!! Woo Hoo!!!

Still on target to clear 5 cards by this October, first one ends in March!. Been a slog but the end is in sight!.

House on track to be paid off in 20 months. And still $0 card debt. :D
