EOI - Group Buy 280KM/H Speedo

Hi All,

I have looked into getting some custom made speedo dials that display up to 280km/h. There are devices on ebay and on online shops that convert the km/h on japanese imports to miles. This is origionally aimed at the UK market as they still live in the dark ages and use miles. This device also then changes the limit to 180 mph which is basically 280km/h. We can then fit one of these dials [below] that shows both miles on the outside in the exact same scale as the stock 180km/h dials that also shows the km/h in smaller print on the inside.

Stock dials

But as I don't like this design I emailed to see if one could be made to the same scale but only showing the km/h. Their responce was yes they can and it would cost me 180 pounds [multiply by approx 1.6 for AUD] but if I could arrange a group buy of 10 or more i could be done for less.
At this stage the estimated cost would be AUD$100.00 depending on how many we get. We need a minimum of 10. I have also requested that we change the lockwood logo to GTO instead

This thread will be posted on 4 forums. I will update all with a count.

Cheers,

Joe

Just ran through the numbers again and found out that as we are not in the UK we don't have to pay the 17.5% VAT tax so they will be cheaper.

New price will be AUD/NZD$80.00 Possibly less if we get more than 10.

Cheers,

Joe

more updates.

I also found another place in the US of A that does the same thing. I emailed them over a week ago but just got a reply. They also have black ones that IMHO look better than the Lockwood ones so I will see what I can do with those. Here is their website. It allows you to custom design a guage with your own logo or text and a choice of clours etc. I have emailed them back about possible group buy options.

http://www.speedhut.com/custom_gauge...number-409.htm

If we can come up with a design we all like I will request a group buy on it. The website only shows miles but I have confirmed fro mthem they can do a kms only version for us.

Cheers,

Joe

A speedo face with the GTO logo would look tits...

I've heard good things about the speed hut guages.

After going through the design part of the website I am leaning towards the speed hut ones now. I think the black with light up red text etc and a gto logo would be awesome.

JOE! I AM SOO IN!! Please put me down! :)
So its a 280 kmh dial only? Or Big KMH scale and smaller mph?
And black with red gto logo would be awesome!

I'de be very interested in this. Keep us posted big daddy.

Scotty

Will be km/h only. I'll work on a design and post it up.

keen! :)

This is the speed hut kit in white. I will be leaning towards black though.

basic mock up. You will have to imagine the mit logo is a gto logo until I can get them to email me a copy of the one I made with gto logo.

yeah we know you like it black scotty muahahahahaha

Boris currently has these dials on his car but it is not running the converter chip. However the guy who sold him the car says there is a chip there but he just disconnected it. So next time I see borris we will try to re-connect this chip and see what happens.

Not the same dials but similar idea.

wonder if they can get it printed up till 320?? cos our needles do keep going past the 180 mark and thus past 280, hell i dont even care if it aint all that accurate.... would look tits. So the 280 could still be where the 180mph meant to be, however it would keep winding its way to 320, hell theoreticaly with our gearing you could do it. After 140 i generaly switch to my avcr anyway

Maddy

400km/h dials FTW haha, what a coversation piece...

black with red and gto as the logo im in if the cost stays below $100 :D

Black with Green if we have to have a colour other than stock.

I think if it's going to be a group buy we will also have to agree on a design. So.... black with white like stock or black with red or black with green or blue etc. Once I have confirmed with speedhut that they can do a group buy i'll create a poll for colour choices. Lockwood have already confirmed they will group buy and that they can do any colour or logo we want.

Black with white, we can change the colour of the bulbs to whatever we want.

vote for NO LOGO :p logo's are ghey.

Can't change the bulbs as they are EL guages. Lights are built into the layers. That's how Boris' has multiple colours etc. That's my understanding anyway.

I dont like Boris' gayges. :p Seriously, I dont. I like the simple black with amber/white and am happy with a GTO logo. I think that would add a touch of prestige not rice. ;)

Scotty

There are ebay bulb kits so I would prefer to do it that way :)

no logo :p

Got a reply back from SpeedHut and they can't do a group buy with good enough prices unless the numbers are over 20 so I'll go back to Lockwood and see what the ycan come up with in black with the gto logo. Mike will just have to paint the logo black :p

Scotty can you email me the image file for that logo you had turned into stickers. I can't find any proper logos to upload.

email = jknigh10 at hotmail dot com

I have to go see if I can find one laying around..... One moment please

Fluck it! I can't find them. I really dont want to pull my garnish off.

Can you take a photo of it and use your awesome PS skills to make another one?

Hmmm.....

I can't sorry mate. The car is on jacks and is too close to the wall. :(

No prob. I'll keep looking.

Found one... Have emailed Lockwood and they are going to print up a mockup with this logo for me to show you guys. He also stated the to do it properly on a black background the font would have to be in white but it will light up red when the lights are on. So will be black and white at daytime and black and lit up red at night. I think the Speedhut ones are out now as the ywill be too expensive. They want to charge to put the logo etc but Lockwood will do it for free.

so it uses the build in lights to light up or the actual replacement needs to be powered?

The replacement needs to be powered. Obviously wired into the lights circuit.

Great find with the logo!

Got a reply from Lockwood. They say the mock up isn't far off. So hopefully should be bale to start confirming numbers in the next few days. Hopefully.

OK.... got the mock up. Please advise any changes etc.

Poll added. Please vote only if you are serious about buying. Also if you have voted on another forum do not vote here.

OK the general consensis seems to be for the black. 3 votes her and 3 on the other site. Can't add a poll on gtoperformance.co.nz so i'll direct them here. However Lockwood have confirmed they can do a 50/50 split of black and white but it would add about $10 per dial so in my opinion not worth it. However if we can get 20 people then the price is lower as well. If we can get 20 people then it will come down to approx AUD$60 each.

I dont like that there is 2 GTO logo's there. I think there only needs to be one.
