Yeah, just like Te'o, I don't think anyone cares... but the media loves a discrimination story, even if it doesn't exist.
I do love that they describe him as the first athlete from a major sport to come out. How does that make female basketball players feel since Griner came out a week or two ago?

Women's basketball isn't a major sport. Besides, there were other openly gay women in the WNBA before Griner.
WNBA averages 7,500 fans a game.
Compare that to the NBA which averages 17,300 and the NHL that averages 17,100.
It's not even fair to compare them to the MLB or NFL.

True enough. I don't watch the NBA either though, nor consider it to be a "major" sport. It's major in the US, but not world wide.
Tennis nets about the same viewers as MLB and NASCAR.

In the US there are 4 major sports, MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL.
WNBA is not a major sport. It doesn't have the viewership to even be close to being considered a major sport. 2012 WNBA finals drew a very unimpressive average of 472,000 viewers. They didn't even hit 500,000. The NBA averages 2 MILLION viewers for its REGULAR season games.
Also, just because football is a major sport and there is a WNFL, does that mean that women's football is a major sport?

I do find it oddly peculiar concerning the timing of the announcement. Hmm, dude is old (by NBA standards), and is now a free agent. And he just so happens to come out...now. Smells very calculated.
I thought we were supposed to be aspiring for equality? How does declaring you're "different" help to bring people together? Why does it need to be screamed from the mountaintops? WHO CARES? Last I checked, Collins is a member of the human race, and that's all I need to know about him.
