Pretty simple really, do you beat everyone off the line and go for the hole shot, or do you just cruise up to speed luxuriously?

very rare....but it happens
the Effort is there in my Camry :p
Yes always, lol, in the 3000 anyway. I will take it personal if they try.
I'm an old child :D
It's an unspoken law that stop lights are there to signal a drag race. Drag anyone at the same light as you. Winning is optional
I drive with a pretty heavy foot... But I get a pretty good laugh out of all the people in SUV's, trucks, and econo cars, that try to pull me off of lights. I pretty much drive like I want to, and don't pay much attention to who or what is in the other lane, but it seems there's always some slow car trying to be fast... :D

If people try to race ahead to get infront of me when i know they will go slower then me i do. Otherwise not usually
sometimes. Depends on my mood i guess. And the car next to me.
Porche: 100% yes :teu42:
Toyota Prius: not so much
At the risk of sounding like a Debbie Downer, I do not race out of stop lights. Seen too many people almost, and one time actually, get t-boned by others trying to beat the red light going the other direction.
Yeahhh you definitely keep an eye out for Red lighters, it's less of an issue here in Australia as if you get caught it's a 3 point (your licence only has 13 points, and it takes a full 3 years to wipe them off) and $400
other than that I generally launch off the lights as the one thing money can't buy is time, so I'd rather be at home 5 minutes earlier than stuck slooowwwly driving through traffic.
It's probably my neck of the woods, people blast through the start of red lights all the time here. It sounds like your penalties are on par or close to ours, but it feels as though they're rarely enforced. Excessive acceleration on the other hand? They'll get you for that. :p
aahhh, see we now have safety camera's on 1/3rd of our traffic lights :) those lights double as speed camera's so if your speeding WHILE going through the red.... BOOM lots of points lol
might be worth seeing if they want to put in "safety" cameras on a few of your worse intersections?
Ohh yeah, it's bound to happen! The bigger cities here in the states have them, but as you get more rural they become a bit less common.
We have a love/hate relationship with cameras in my area though. :p Great money makers for the city, but makes a lot of the residents mad in the process (especially with the speed cameras).
For those of you that rush out on lights, do you not worry about this too much?
Always:DevilSmile: Had a few bikes pawing the air trying to catch up:lol:
sometimes. most of the time, i try to just rev the engine at a riced out honda & see if i can get him to jump off the line when there's a cop somewhere close by.
It's not like I brake boost and launch every light, I don't do that at all, but I do "leave everyone in the dust" because I am attentive to stop lights. People unattentive at lights are people who cause traffic to pile up, and don't let as many cars as possible get through the light.
Funny that I am attentive at lights, because to anything else if its more than 5 seconds I am usually like "Oh look a squirell."
I drive briskly, in all my cars, but I don't floor it out of the gate in any of them. I'm also usually quicker than the other guy next to me at a light to notice it's changed to green. I typically drive about 10mph over, so I accelerate to that speed in a linear fashion. I can't stand it when people press the gas, get up to about 20mph, then I guess they decide they're going too fast, so then they creep up to 30, and then by that time they've gone a quarter mile or more and they see a speed limit sign that says it's 40, so then they hurry up and get to 40. This seems to be the norm around here unfortunately.
On this topic, am I the only one who HATES when people start rolling into the intersection before the light turns green?
I swear, I see people do that all the time. It's like they think they will make the light turn green faster. Worst part is I STILL beat them off the line because they creep, stop, creep, stop, creep, stop. All I do is hit the gas and I look back and they are still sitting there.
if you creep into the intersection in europe, you can't see the traffic light. someone had the retarded idea to put them on the SAME SIDE OF THE INTERSECTION that you stop on.
With all due attention to every possible safety consideration - after all, at any busy 4-way you're gonna have several front-row witnesses; it's a bad time to be stupid - when leaving an intersection, if someone else tries, I make sure I try a little bit harder. :D
Meh, I leave normal 80% of the time, but stay at their door. If they get frisky, I remain at their door. If they get froggy, bye bye...
Every time im a the red light at the line, ill wait till it turns green but before that ill rev up the car a couple of times while im checking the weather/facebook updates/texts/phone calls/my make up.
Then, when it turns green, ill just wait till somebody lays on the horn and then ill go very slowly. Sometimes it scares me and ill let the car die because I cant drive a stick.
:lmao:
Since I live so close to Michigan & the natural tendency to drive like idiots originated in the U.P. (true story, look it up), I pretty much give it hell till 5 above the speed limit to make sure the person alongside me doesn't try to shoot out in front of me to make his/her turn two blocks up.
The other time I usually try to be ahead of them is on the last light before it switches to two-lanes (heading back to semi-normality in WI). There are three potential outlets for MI drivers (four if you include the liquor store across the bridge), so their natural tendency to try to get around you off the light, only to slam on the brakes w/no turn signal, is much greater than the average person.

I rarely do it in the Stealth, because I know the car attracts attention from the men in blue, but once and a while, I like to show off to the gods of acceleration. In my Infiniti FX 45, I do it much more often. A lot of people in so called "fast cars" are surprised to get dusted by an SUV. But it's a 330 hp, V8, AWD with traction control SUV. It's pretty much a sports car in SUV clothing.
Pretty much a combination of these three. I always look left and right as the light is changing, and accelerate linearly up to around 2-5 over and cruise. No show boating, but it is enough to leave four out of five cars far behind.
Yeah I don't really try and do this but in the 3K I just seem to accelerate faster than most do. If the person is just wanting to speed and not race then I let them go after I reach my desired speed. It just seems extremely rare people accelerate faster than me.....unless I'm at NG. lol
I have a rotary now, so it has actually negative torque. Takes a 6500rpm 2 step launch to keep pace with traffic around here. S2k's still hole shot me though.
:)
Jason
You guys make me feel ridiculous. I DD my 6 speed vr4 under 2000 or even 2500 RPM's when pulling away from the light.
Negative torque. Lolol
Drivin' grandpa style. :p

Never. Accelerating quickly from a stop is a huge waste of gas. It amuses me to no end watching the guy that has to holeshot it every time, weaving in and out of traffic...only to ultimately end up in my rear view. Tortoise and the hare.
Jeremy
Voted no, never. But on very rare occasions I will take off fast. Usually the cars around here are not worth playing with, so I just go slow.
