Buy some gum. Keep yourself busy. Try to stay away from drinking alcohol.
Put your life under the microscope. Look at anything that you've ever associated with having a cigarette and discontinue that. Set yourself a financial goal. Take a look at how much you spent on smoking a month and then figure out what you would rather have bought with your money and use it as a reward. If you smoke 1 pack a day at $4.50 * 30 days a month = $135 a month in savings = $1620 a year.
I bought a motorcycle with the amount I saved by quitting smoking, and then if I ever had a craving, I just went riding. Can't smoke with a full face helmet on :) Haven't had a smoke in over 3.5 years.
Take it day by day. It is a mental game. Just stack the mental cards in your favor :)
cheers guys, it wont be easy i smoke like a chimney! so its really gunna suck!
i dont drink as a rule so alcohol is easy avoidable. besides i'm broke so i cant anyway lol.
Ironically, I quit right after attending the first NG in Michigan (I wasn't much of a smoker anyhow, maybe two packs a week...).
I don't miss it (and my wife still smokes)....
You can "dooo eet"!!!!
Bob. ;)
Good luck!

Good luck my friend. Ive been smoking a pack a day for about 6 years and regret ever lighting that first cig. Waking up every morning to coughing black crap up really sucks.
Good luck man, I really hope you're able to kick it. Gum...and lots of it.
i'll be like that big stone dude outta night at the musium...GUM GUM? hell my teeth are fubar already, i'll just keep busy with a few things, have some stuff to do on the van, bit of mechanical, try get some bodywork done too. i got this! :D
Oh, and why wait till tomorrow David?
Bob. :)
You can drink, just not a lot. I'm a chewer and a smoker (mainly a chewer), and I know how hard it is. Just have patience and exercise whenever you can.
Try and deal with anything that gives you stress, i.e. what I did was clean, eat healthy, do yoga, avoid procrastination on anything, and take pride in my will to quit.
Also, your blood sugar level will drop so have a few glasses of juice a day.
what flavor yoga did you eat? i kinda like the rasberry.
anyway thanks for the advice, i may even gain some weight back and get in the gym too :)
just go ahead and tell your wife/gf that you love her, and that you are sorry for anything that might be said during the first week of trying to quit smoking.
hahaha she is thick skinned lol
doin well so far, i dont get the feeling i want or need a cig. i hope this keeps up.
last cig i had was 14 hours ago.
Well we went for a walk earlier and he is doing really well made sure we have some food in so if he fancies a cig he can just grab a sandwich or something else, any weight gained wont be so bad, he keeps telling me he wants to put a bit on ;)
Hope you succeed!
From the title I thought you were talking about the other site.
startin to feel it now but aint giving in.....i cant anyway lol.
Stay strong! We have faith in you.
I'm trying to quit too. Just had one, but haven't had one since 12 hours ago. Good for me so far. I normally would have had 5 or 6 by now. I typically smoke a pack a day, so only one by 1:00pm is a triumph for me.
Cigs are around $6-$7 dollars per pack around where I live. Total cost monthly is around $180-$210. Total Yearly cost is $2160 - $2520. I could by some nice upgrades for my car with the money I'll be saving.
having none is the bigger test i have never gone so long without....well i did before i started smoking but i mean in the last 20 odd years. i have usually smoked roughly about 30 cigs by now i have gone 20 hours so far without a single one. i got this! this is cake!
your better smoking tobacco. a bag of southern steel tobacco is around 15 bucks for 16oz last you a month or more. actually your better not smoking any! i never ever thought i would find myself saying that ever!
good luck, do it the way i did... wake up tomorrow. you already went 8 hours without? see if you can last the same way!
Good Luck! I was a 2-pack-a-day smoker and quit cold turkey. I smoked for 33 years! I did the bar scene about every day after work, and that was around 17 years ago when smoking was still allowed in bars. I was a Kool (brand) smoker and they say methols are harder to quit. I kept an unopened pack in my shirt pocket (or jacket) as a security blanket. I knew there was a cig within reach if I needed one. It's needless to say how many times I took that pack out and looked at it....and thought, "Do I really need one"? I never opened the pack, and after about a month I threw it away. If you're a smoker and quit, you will still have the craving from time to time for a LONG time. After meals I still will sometimes reach for a cig and then just chuckle. A form of habit in more ways than you can imagine. Hang in there and put your will power to test. YOU CAN DO IT! :thumbup1:
I can only say good luck. I have no tips. :(
had my last cigarrette or rolly at 11pm last night, its 9.47pm and haven't touched one. i think i got this :D
Quit over 8 years ago
When you are ready, and I hope that time is now, you can / will do it!
Good luck
Dave it comes in 3's really. At 3 hours, days, weeks and months you feel like just saying screw it and starting again. I f you get past that you have a much higher rate of success. Good luck man.
start of day 2 feel like shit!
I quit cold turkey too. Its nice to not want a cig :). My only advice is to find something to replace cigs/releasing stress. And dont work on your car for a while, I know I always smoked while doing so.
I think youll do just fine.
Also did you know that Nicotine withdrawl actually only lasts 3 days?? Remind yourself that too.
This has encouraged me to quit... as soon as I get this oil leak taken care of and maybe the first few drives on the motor. But I have a feeling it will be sometime this week.
right now i'm in the worst possible place to be....
bored with nothing to do, if i get over this then i can defeat the craving for good!.
Hang in there.
I smoked ever since high school, 40 years!
I just up and quit 3 weeks ago.
It has phases and takes a while for each but usually (from everyone I talk to) it goes away 90% in 6 weeks. Everyone is different and not all have the sleep problems or intestinal problems and so on. But no matter what it is all temporary. That's what I tell myself.
I did the A.Carr method (http://www.allencarrseasyway.com/) and it has been a LOT easier than I thought. Never thought I'd be able to do it but it has been easy compared to the fear of quitting. That method was the most straightforward way ever and it worked.
Good luck. Sounds like you want to quit and that's the #1 thing to doing it. Wanting to for you.
Nice job on your progress cj, I am sure david will have great success.
good luck man, I know its hard
nice work CJ. dunno about paying to quit tho...reason i'm quitting now is because i have the perfect opertunity....cant buy any more lol i'm broke! so like it or not i really have no choice!
