My 6-speed trans is leaky from both of these bolts, my question is are they just bolts or do they play a certain role in the trans. Also can I remove them and use some thread sealent to make sure they dont leak?

My bet is that you need to pull the trans and reseal the case.
It doesnt seem to be leaking from the housings. I traced the leak and it comes from these big bolts.
Anyone? It leaks from that big bolt that looks like a handle! Can that be removed?
They have a purpose, the long one is the reverse detent and the other is the shift detent. You can remove them (might want to have it in neutral). DO NOT take a pipe wrench or something like that to the tall one. You will damage it. You must use a wrench on the base of it. I think I had to grind down a wrench to get it in there. Pick up some good sealant to use%

The drain/fill plug is 22ft-lbs so I was gonna tighten them to that.
the top one is 24ft.lbs (long one) and the bottom one says 15ft.lbs.
