I completely agree with your opinion that we should just tune for knock, but I wanted to start out conservative and try to control as many variables as I can.

Ya I lol'ed at that comment. I found using the conversion was a better starting point because I was hitting over 6 counts of knock while running meth injection without it.
Hey Mate,
Your 92 ECU won't be flashable. You will need to purchase a flashable ECU from this thread.

Joe, Yes I am in the process of chasing down a Flashable Ecu... They certainly arent common here in Australia, so I guess at this stage the USA market is the best bet. Is the "SL" ecu out of a NA version of a 3000Gt. We never had that model here ? Most of my work revolves around reflashing Evo Lancers and Legnum VR4s. At last I can do some sensible tuning with my 3000GT.
Is the links up and going at all ?
Yeah, that's actually what really made me switch over. With the arc-2 if I wanted 11.5-12.0 afr at redline i would run really rich (<10:1) in the mid-range and finally get a punch of power at about 5k. Dr-500's shouldn't have lag! ;) I'm in the process of replacing a lot of gasket's and vacuum lines, but might finish it up tomorrow night.
Hi everyone, I recently switched from speed density to ECUflash +maf and I'm having some issues.
I have a JDM 95 GTO with a 98 Montero flashable ECU (equivalent to a 98 SL) the injector map and the harness was sent to me by the person who makes harnesses for everyone and who is on 3si.org. I have a (boost gauge, boost controller as the ecu is not a VR4), I will jump the fuel pump relay in a few days, I don't have a hotwire, I have a stock fuel press regulator, I don't have wideband/narrowband yet.
The car runs and idles good but drives really bad, I boosted gently and it feels jerky and way off. My catalytic converter light flashes when I give it gas (Cat light only on JDM cars) and car will sometimes stall temporary when shifting from second to third (open loop BOV probably).
I know that the JDM GTOs have only 1 O2 sensor and the ecu will read from the "rear" o2 sensor, also know that 95 does not have o2 heater circuit so I tried to disable both the heaters (11 and 14), my EGR is disabled, and I also tried to disable the front O2 sensor(but kept both o2 heaters activated), I will try without the o2 heaters and without the front o2 sensor tonight but so far I'm having no luck I think I need 2g JDM specific peripheral settings.
I also have some codes current and stored, but I don't know how accurate they are since I don't have the OBDII (second part of HHH), they are 11- heated O2 sensor and 24 speed sensor. Also, when I disabled the o2 heaters in the ECUflash I got a code 25 (borometric pressure sensor) again I don't know how accurate this is because I wasn't in OBD2 mode using HHH.
There is also a guy in Aus I think that replaced the stock O2 sensor with an LC1 wideband o2 controller and fed that to both of the O2 sensors that the flashable ECU expects, but I don't have a wideband yet so I'm just trying to make it drivable for now.
Looking forward to getting my car running :)
Thanks!
FYI ... the Montero ecu is NOT the same as an SL ecu and WILL NOT work without modification.
And I am guessing you mean blackstealth made your harness.. he is not the only one that makes harnesses, but since I am the other guy (actually the original) and I don't recognize your handle, it must be blackstealth.
And you need to make sure you have the periphery bits set they way that is specified in this thread.
It was blackstealth who made it. I know not ALL 98-99 montero ECUs are flashable, but some are. Blackstealth chose by part number and they have knock circuits built it. At the same time I bought a friend 99 3.5L montero ecu, he put into his USDM stealth and his car runs and drives great. I'm using a 98 montero 3.8L ECU I think.
These 98-99 Montero ECU part numbers don't need modification because they have knock circuits built in.

I couldn't find periphery bits for a 2g JDM Car(JDM cars have 1 o2 sensor, no EGR), Monster Stealth said "1G cars must use the periphery bit setup that was posted earlier in this thread to not get a CEL. "
My peripherys inputs don't seem the same, for example I have a input for rear o2 sensor?
